Hi Guys,

I have recently taken my 2008 A4 to convert a Concert radio to a MMI 3G+ system.

Everything seems to work fine except two little things,

- When I put my car into a reverse, visual parking aid displays as if my car had front and rear parking sensors (it only has rear ones) and after a second, screen goes back to my media player.

- When I had the Concert radio, everytime I changed my dual-zone climate control settings, they appeared on the screen. I could also control where the air flows using radio's knob. Currently I see no response on mmi when changing a temperature and the only settings I have are synchronisation of zones, auto on/off switch. When I want to change where the air flows, I need to look at those tiny screens on the A/C controls.

I have a VCDS but I am not an expert and don't know what can be done with it.

Anyone in here knows the possible solution? Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Welcome to the site.

Did you retrofit this yourself.

No, I went for a road trip to Poland and got it fitted over there for way cheaper than it would cost me in the UK (i pad £700 in total including component protection removal). The only problem was, that I did not have much time to test every single option in the car since I had to drive back ASAP and now, I am trying to figure out whether the mentioned issues can be coded.

Green menu & coding could fix these issues, but you have to be very careful as you can cause allot of issues if not done correctly.

Whereabouts are you located?

I'm from Cannock in Staffordshire

I have a VCDS (As I remember I bought it from you:)) and I am guessing there is a lot of things that are not coded correctly - even by looking at what is enabled in the gateway.

I didn'd have much time to play with green menu other than enabling AMI and looking into plugging a TP-Link modem through to enable google services - I am yet to test that since I am waiting for some parts.

I would check through the mmi/ce module coding options & green menu for display options, as it will be this to change.

Thanks, I will have a look after I finish work and will let you know what I can find

I've seen the issue of the parking sensor screen appear on a few other Audi forums across the pond and here with no fix as of yet. The parking sensors work different on the newer cars though with them going through the central electric or central convenience (I can't remember which off the top of my head) rather than the individual parking module so could be tied up with that as a very rough guess?

I'm debating a switch from MMI 2G but not sure if the 3G+ is worth some of the hassles it brings or to just go to 3G. Got no interest in Google Maps and Audi Connect won't work properly as far as I know but could be wrong.

Thanks for this info, I tried to search for a solution for this problem but I had no luck.

In regards to 3G+, I had the Concert system with B&O as standard and since I was upgrading, I went for the latest possible option. The only hassles I have encountered are the ones listed in this thread.

From what I know, Audi Online services won't be fully available unless you have a SIM unit which I was going to retrofit but the courier did not deliver it on time so I ended up taking what they had in stock on that day.

I'd like to help you with the differences between 3G and 3G+ but I have very little experience with the 3G as I only had Concert to begin with. As far as I am aware, if you are not bothered about the new menu style and online services, then there shouldn't be much difference. If you eventually change your mind and want 3G+, I think you just need to replace the head unit and sort the CP out

Right, I have checked through Green Menu and MMI/CE but with my minimal knowledge, I can't see anything in VCDS that would indicate that parking sensors or aircon are disabled.

In regards to the Green Menu, I have not got a clue whether this is the correct set up so I have taken some screenshots (including the one that shows what A/C options I have available on the screen)

On a side note, in the carbusassignment section, I have many options set to "Can Comfort 1/9" even if those options are not fitted in my car i.e. ACC
Which setting should I choose for those features that do not exist in my car?

I know you can get Audi Connect without a SIM unit by tethering to a personal hotpot if you get all the right networking kit but certain features will always be disabled on a retrofit unit as Audi have to activate the VIN at the factory and can't be done after.

Just received a USB AMI cable and found another problem which I would appreciate to get some help with.
I got a AMI-USB cable (part no. 4F0051510AB) and went into Green Menu diagnosis > setup and enabled AMI and AMI/BT however, when I hook up fat32 formatted USB stick, AMI states "not connected" when I tried to choose it as a source.

I have read several threads that media player (1, 2 or 3) needs to be activated in the CAN module, is that true? if so, which one would it be? When I went to CAN Gateway it doesn't even have stuff that car is equipped with ticked.

I am a newbie to all this and wonder whether it needs a full recoding by the right person...

My MMI unit is 8R1035666E

Did you tick the options for all the features the car had when you fitted the new CAN gateway?

No bud, someone else fitted everything in but I don't think it's coded properly...
I'd plug it in now and see what's ticked. Do you know which media player number enables AMI ?

When I lost the temp/ fan display on mine I did this. Hope it helps

AMI sorted, turns out that cable has not been properly locked in the connector housing.

Coded Gateway to the spec of the car, Aircon and park assist still not figured out

You tried asking on the Ross-tech forums?

Are you sure the climate control is compatible with 3GP. On the A6 the control panel that are compatible with MMI 2G would not work with MMI 3G and this had to be replaced, could be the same here. Also check the coding on the parking module make sure they have not changed the coding incorrectly.

I am not 100% sure to be honest, I'll post a thread on ross-tech forum and will pop to someone who knows much more than me.
If it turns out that I have to replace both, A/C controls and Parking Module, I guess, it's either some more upgrades or just getting used to what's currently there.

The A4 is the same - for everything to display on the screen from a climate perspective you must upgrade to a 3G panel. It'll still work without but you just won't get anything on the MMI. Don't go for a B8.5 facelift panel though as these aren't working in pre-FL cars due to wiring differences.

Slackworth, I have been reading tons of info now and found out the same results, for 3g+ even the park assist module has to be replaced. And as you say, it's an involving job to upgrade A/C panel so I will probably leave it or get someone who knows their stuff to do it.

Do any of you guys know a pro in the area that would be able to have a look at my car?
I am booked at Midlands VW to dig in in about two weeks however, I am unsure whether they are doing cross-platform retrofits.

Unfortunately Audi made some pretty big changes in how the modules work when they face lifted the A4. Some of it can't even be changed without totally changing the main harnesses and the coding required would be huge if even possible. Even the hardcore MMI converters in the US have bailed from some of the changes though fair play to them for getting as far as they have!!!

In terms of the AC panel, switching from a 2G compatible module which you will have in yours to a 3G unit isn't that difficult - believe there is some minor coding required and unfortunately you'll need a trip to the main dealer to have CP removed. Physically switching the panel needs a hook tool to yank it out but other than that it's pretty plug and play. Where the issue comes is trying to switch to a B8.5 unit with the white LCDs as that is where the major changes came in.

I am not bothered about getting white display or piano black surround. If I could easily swap my AC controls to the 3G ones, I am happy to go ahead however, I will still need support with coding as I am totaly new to all of this.

Midlands VW which is based in Cannock does remove CP so that won't be a big issue.

I'll look for a part number to see what panels I can find.
I also found a post on A5 forum where someone has succesfully upgraded to a white screen controls.

Has anyone got ETKA to check if 8K2 820 043 AC or 8K2 820 043 AH would be compatible ?
It has a piano black panel which makes me think, it comes from the facelift model but I am probably wrong.

Cheers

The unit ending in AC has been superseeded by the AH unit but both of those are for front (and rear if fitted) heated seats as well as climate comfort seats (wouldn't mind some of those myself but they're incredibly rare to pick up on Fleabay and the cost would be huge - would be cheaper to buy a new car!!).

I'm assuming as you mentioned dual zone at the top you have the "deluxe" tri-zone climate (PR Code 9AQ) with independant controls for driver, passenger and rear of the car? Looking at the available options you'll need 8T2 820 043 AF for a RHD car. Unit ending in AG adds heated seats without climate comfort.

Although the wiring is the same on the MMI 3G (not facelift panel), I imagine Audi either changed the software slightly or the baud rate of the panel is slightly different - similar to how the main keypads are from the MMI 3G to the MMI 3G Plus.

I am surprised you have got as far as you have with only what appear to be small issues. There is a significant difference between the original MMI Concert system that I also have in my car and the later MMI3 systems. Not only just the modules but the way they talk to each other on the different buses. I only live up the road from yourself in Heath Hayes and have used Midland VW a few times for mapping and other stuff.
I dabble with VCDS on my car but there are so many potential pitfalls with doing what you are it would be quite easy to screw something up.

I know Chris who will probably be doing the work on your car and he is good but this type of stuff can be really fiddly and you may not have all the correct hardware.I wasn't aware they could sort CP issues that's handy to know.
I am sure you have probably come across this thread
http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/502060-New-3G-Plus-MMI-in-2010-Retrofit
As it details quite a bit of information and somewhere in there may be the answer to your problem. A long way to goto Poland but I think you probably saved a lot of money compared to the prices in the UK.

Karl.

Thanks for help guys.

Yes, these are the only issues I have and the reason why I drove 1000 miles to Poland is because I was going there to see my family so decided to take the car with me and get the 3G+ in:)

I will dig up on the link and part numbers you guys have passed and will check what Chris says next weekend.

I'd love to get the air con and park assist sorted but if it turns out to be impossible, I can live with just a beep on the park assist and small red screens on the a/c controls.

By the way, I could not find the PR code for my air con but I know my control panel is
8T2 820 043 M

Those part numbers listed above are for a lhd car. There are different part numbers for a rhd car.
http://www.partsbase.org/audi/audi-...tioning-system-climatronic/#p-aud-8k2820043ac

The part numbers I posted are definitely for RHD according to Etka. Anything 8K1 or 8T1 is LHD. RHD is 8K2 or 8T2. If the part will work with either then it is 8K0 or 8T0.

:) By the way, I could not find the PR code for my air con but I know my control panel is 8T2820032M

That part code doesn't look right. Regardless of which version of climate and features you have, the part code should always be 8T2 820 043...it's the letters after that make the difference. I checked my 2G panel on Etka and mine is 8T2 820 043 N

Sorry mate, I did a typo, the correct part number is 8T2 820 043 M

Phew - thought you had a new hybrid part then :D

That makes sense given mine is N and I have seated heats. Looks like AF should be the correct unit for you. There's quite a few on eBay for not all that much money - annoyingly the cost of getting CP removed will actually be more than the panel itself :(

Hahaha!

Yeah, I saw those panels going for not much money. I think last time I asked for a price of CP removal, it was something like 40 quid, plus it needs coding as you mentioned and I doubt I would know how to do it correctly

40 for CP is good as I know Audi charge a full hours labour despite the fact it takes about 10 mins!!

Don't think the coding would be all that difficult just going to a 3G panel. I'd replicate the 2G panel coding to start with and see what error codes it throws up. Failing that there's a DB of coding for different people's cars on the net but can't remember where doh!

I'm surprised that Audi does CP at all. When I rang Stafford Audi about a year ago, they say they won't do it.

Thanks for help bud. I will try to get hold of the guy that sells those AC control panels to see if I can pick one up this week and then once the CP is removed, I'll try my luck with VCDS

I'm a Staffs member myself :)

Try Stoke Audi as they're more open from a parts selling perspective than others. Saying they dont do it is tosh. ..all dealers with VAS/ODIS can do it!! The thing with both Stoke and Staffs Audi is to at the very least talk to a service advisor at the dealer or better still the master technician. They normally try and shove you through to the Swansay Group call centre who are useless. I tried recently to get a service supplying own oil and the call centre swore blind they wouldn't do it and tried to sell me a service package at £1200 to save money LOL. Spoke to Andrew Strickland at Stafford who quoted me straight away no issues. Went to BVR in the end as they were still mlies cheaper.

Quick update - I got the AC control panel, went to Midlands VW where Chris has sent the scan to the AutoLogic for CP removal but they came back saying that they cannot do it for this setup :(

Now I am trying to get one of Audi dealers to remove CP for me but so far they say that they are not prepared to do this for me.

In terms of the visualisation for rear parking system, I tried messing around with PDC dimming options in the hidden menu and reading about it with no luck. I wonder whether this needs a newer controller too...
