Okay, a very long story indeed, maybe i'll post it sometime but I'll probably bore or confuse people so might not :p

Short version: Having the 1.4 COD s line with SE Suspension, I personally am disappointed with the suspension, it doesn't seem anymore comfortable than an S Line I had as a courtesy car, so i won't be listening to reviews so closely anymore - I bet they haven't even drove an s line on SE suspension - they just put two and two together and say it's more comfortable. My opinion, it crashes and bounces around and corners like a pig so I cannot have any fun whatsoever.
Engine is good, impressive performance but I really dislike the 2 cylinder mode, as I wont go into detail because I can already see myself getting a bit of a motor mouth on :p

Anyway, I'm planning on trading in when the warranty runs out. I can only imagine it's a very complicated engine with many things that can go wrong, and if they do £££££ for a car that I'm not overly impressed with since a bad choice with suspension... also wished I specced B&O and S Tronic but not so gutted about it.

I'm planning on either the 1.8 TFSI S Tronic (i'm sure you can get 2 wheel drive but the configurator won't let me choose) or an S3 S Tronic.

I watched a few reviews tonight of the S3 as this is probably my main choice if I can push a few more grand out. I have a week off work and am finding stuff to do other than detail my car :D so I watched a particular review that I don't think I should take too seriously, not only that a lot of people were complaining about the reviewer since he was a complete bore and a bit of a downer about the car, he clearly didn't like it and complained about not being able to have 'fun' by skidding the rear end out - it's too planted.... well I'm fine with that, i'd rather not crash a 30k car if I make a mistake, or trash my tyres... You can have fun without skidding around like a yob, i'd much rather have a good planted car that goes like hell.

One thing that got my attention was he complained about the standard sport seats (also the S line seats) which got me wondering. He said they didn't seem to grip you in, and it feels like your falling out. This is a blow to me because I find 700 quid for Super Sport Seats a little over the top considering it's high price already, i'm really pushing into boundaries with money since I don't want finance so i'll be saving for it, but also wanting enough money for the house i'll probably be looking into around that time, so hence why I like the 1.8 (although don't know how much that will be...) - the main reason is you can have White/Black interior at no added cost and my jaw drops when I see it, it looks great personally, the super sport seats are 700 quid more for just black interior like a normal s line, however the seats do look great...

I'm waffling, so basically the question is: Who has the normal sport seats, do you find them not fit for purpose or are they fine? My S line as said before has SE Suspension, so if I go for it in a corner it leans a lot, they seem to grip me fine, but obviously the S3 is a big beast so I'm worrying if they will be something I will then regret.

I have the standard S3 seats and don't have any problems at all. I suffer from lower back problems and find the seats supportive and comfortable.
But that's me, I'm sure others may answer differently. But as you've already found out there's no replacement for a thorough test drive, you have to make your own mind up.

The Super Sports Seats take this car up to the next level when it comes to luxury. They are beautiful and look like something out of the £80k RS avants or Bentley.
The are comfy aswell....but mine is on PCP so it only made £15 a month difference...

I have standard sport seats and I find them extremely comfortable, in fact one of the most comfortable I've ever had in a car. Unfortunately we are all built differently so this is as the saying goes IMO.

I have the standard S3 seats with lumbar and they are fine down my back. However they are very lateral. Go for alcantara and you'll not move as much. SS seats however do not solve this lateral movement. There's a few posts in this forum about the seat base and back in comparison to the standard ones. SS seats do look lovely but I'd rather pop that money into some other spec.

Standard seats with lumbar for me and would have them again. Main reason probably differs from others but I wanted to have adjustable head restraints and also not make little lad in the back so claustrophobic - I like that he can see us in the front.

Standard sports seats all the way :)

By anyone's standards I am slim (and athletic of course) and no way am I sliding around. They are superb seats, very comfortable and supportive ;)

Standard seats here, did a five hour non stop drive and no problems with comfort. (6ft 1 and 14.5 stone).

I also have like a rack/pouchy thing from Halfords that attaches round the head rest bars where little lad puts his toys and rubbish. Also doubles up as a protector for the back of the seat from his shoes lol !!

I don't quite understand how you can "really dislike" 2 cylinder mode. Unless you have the DIS set to display when it cuts in you can't tell. At least you can't on my car.!

Re the suspension - I test drove a standard saloon (ie Sport) and found the suspension pretty uncomfortable on country roads. Selected SE suspension for my car and it is definitely more comfortable, and seems to behave in corners just fine.

Funny you say that. Every saloon owner I see has no problems. Must be a hatchback problem.

Mine is really annoying, if you drove it you'd notice I promise.

I am so pleased I opted for the super sport seats. They look amazing and I find them incredibly comfortable. And I'm 6ft 5"

Thanks for all the responses guys, I think if I decide that I can afford the S3 i'll go for the standard seats with the white/creamy seats and black interior. Love it! Sepang blue with black pack is looking the way ;)

Will be a few years yet though, plenty of time to make up my mind.
