I have the SD based sat nav in my brand new A3. I've noticed that it looses my home address/postcode every 4-5 days and I have to keep re-saving it. It's not a massive issue but surly it's not right? Anyone else having this?

Mine lost it recently, but it's the first time in 14 months that it's done it.

There's a school of thought that says it's safer not to have your home address programmed in. Just pick it from recents when you need it.

I use a pub up the road, as I don't want my home address used and not had a problem.

I agree but it doesn't ask for the house number, only the postcode. At one point all my saved address' vanished. They are all back now.

The SD sat nav is notorious for losing the home address details but I would concur with the previous threads that its best not to have your home address stored anyway. I'm feeling nervous enough about having my S3 stolen (keyless entry) without the scum knowing where I live too.

I don't understand the logic behind not wanting to store your home address... can someone explain it to me?

You get your car stolen in a public place (e.g. car park) and the thief has a reasonable guess that you aren't at home and you can't get home quickly as he's got your car. If he's got your keys, he may also now have your house keys and the sat nav can take him to your house to fill up the boot!

Neighbours probably wouldn't be too suspicious if they see your car pull up too!

Again, it's a long odds event but given that you probably know how to get home from your postcode, there's not much need to store your house number in there too.

Right, and you don't keep your paperwork in your glovebox? With your address on? Logbook etc? I expect most people do...

Mine has once lost the home address once in the year that I've had it, but I think that was when I changed my phone. I figured that the home address might be linked to which phone it was paired to. It certainly doesn't lose it every few days... Do you have more than one phone paired to the Bluetooth? I've only got one paired.

It's certainly not something I feel passionately about so let's not turn this into another advance key thread!

It was actually less effort to just put my postcode in rather than putting the house number as well.

Now you mention it, it did coincide with me changing phone a few weeks ago. That's interesting. Wonder why they made that decision?

I figured it might mean that a shared car could have different home addresses for different users. But that's just a guess - I didn't go back to my old phone after getting the new one to try the theory!

Why would you use you home address in a sat nav when you already know where you live?

Has happened to me about 3 times in the 5 months I've had the car. Lost all the favourites once as well.

I give up!

?

I don't understand why this is confusing?

If I've used the satnav to get me hundreds of miles from home I probably don't remember 100% how to retrace my steps so I'll ask the satnav to take me home.

What's difficult about that?

Instead of saving your home address, save the street a few streets away, job done!

I realise that the OP is talking about SD based SatNav but I use the picture destination on my Tech Pack. I have a photo of my driveway (which would mean nothing to a potential criminal amongst the many other pictures I have) and use that as my home destination. Nothing says Home so reasonably secure.

I expect most people don't. When there's no legal requirement to carry any paperwork, why on earth would I keep it in the car? Just takes up space and another big hassle if the car does get stolen or broken into.

I agree. There is nothing in my car that gives my home address details.

+2

And my 'HOME' is the pub down the road.

Not literally obviously

My home address is my town. Having lived there for years I obviously know the way home from there!! Hence my previous slightly sarcastic point.

I have a 2013 plate Sat Nav where it losses quite a few of the saved addresses, they sometimes re appear but its not reliable.
Any ideas on fixing the issue?
