S3's being stolen

Haha half all of those I've not specced.

Black grille
No rear badge
Optional wheels which you can have on the S-line.

Mine does look rather standard from behind debadged...

Colour is a bit of a giveaway though for anyone who knows what they are looking at :grinning:

Well after reading what everyone has had to say I'm gonna go for my s3 with gap insurance and get a wheel lock.if it gets stolen then what will be will be

If you worry about what could happen you would never leave the house or do anything at all! You could get run over crossing the road...or mugged going to the shops...or choke on the extra large kebab after a night on the pop lol :)

I saw my father go downhill fast, he went from being normal to not knowing who I am in a matter of months, now he just sits in a chair all day looking at his lap :( ...live life for today as you never know when it may be your last! ;)

Wasn't the guy who crashed that tt quite badly injured?

Was in the news a couple of years ago. Walked away.... Highly embarrassed of course if I remember rightly

Leaving the badges off to foil theft is pointless. The people that go the all the trouble to steal a car for profit are very knowledgeable and will know exactly what it is....

Get an immobiliser /alarm that works independently.
Move obd port(its free after all)

This probably isn't what you want to hear.. My 5 month old S3 was stolen (keys taken from breaking into the house). Seems terrible? I ended up OK, a month and 2 days after it was taken I was picking up my new S3 after claiming on GAP insurance - GAP is a MUST.

That's my main concern, not stealing the car but breaking into the house

To be fair though, we were very under prepared in terms of security, we have since upgraded all the locks to tamperproof and installed a new alarm system. I don't think they would get anywhere near the inside of the house after fitting the locks so it's not really a worry to me.

It's two locked doors to go through in my house which ever way they try to enter so that should be enough.so sad we live in a world that this is how you have to think!buy something nice because you work your *** off and some little scumbag thinks they have the right to take that.

Who did you have your GAP insurance with? I'm still deciding to go with the dealer or ALA Fall for my new S3?

The people who steal aren't the cleverest (that is why they do it) de-badged can work imho, just make it very inconvenient to take.

Unfortunately, if someone wants to steal something of yours, they will do it.
I install electronic security for a living (burlgar alarms, cctv, fire alarms, automatic gates etc etc). If someone has got the motive, then they are more than likely going to get it. Get an alarm, works well for the house when they are already in. Get CCTV, see who has already done something to your car. Upgrade the locks, they'll smash a window. Live out of town, they'll drive something through the hedge and drag it out. I'm afraid it's just the cold, hard truth. I've seen/heard a lot of things.

Btw, I'm assuming Hikvision CCTV there @S32B? ;) Possibly IP?

Advanced key? Did someone say advanced key :p

LOL.

If someone wants it, or rather if its meant to happen there isn't much you can do bar fighting, most of you seem like family people so whether you want to risk it or not is down to you.

I've wanted the S3 for years, wanted the 8L then 8P and got the 8V, I didn't bother to think about risk factors even though I usually always do, put it down to being smitten by the car, or that I was having a hard time!

Anyway I went through all the motions, for example CCTV + Advance Alarm Systems, Solid doors etc, but what if I am out, or they wait till I get to the end of the road? lol! Then I thought debadge and get a subtle colour, then a guy who got a subtle colour had his stolen, the irony was he picked that colour so no one would want it! lol!

After going round and round;

- I made sure I have GAP (make sure its valid i.e. if your insurer offers you a replacement car and you refuse, GAP will also refuse - get clued up!)
- I garage mine, otherwise yeah I probably would sell it :/
- I actually tried to sell mine through worry, but was taking a big loss and thought forget it, if it happens it happens!
- I always check when someones behind me as I get near, I did this in my 8P but now find 5% of my home returns I take a detour
- Apart from work I try to mix patterns up like going to the gym times and days etc

As for advanced key, I have it, I like it, I also know scrawny kids with a laptop and lead can take it while I nip into the shop!

The only item I would be willing to invest in is a tracker app via an iPhone or similar devise powered by the car, not sure if one is available fully developed.

@CybrHwk - I went thro' Gapinsurance123 for my new S4
https://gapinsurance123.co.uk/?gclid=CNCdiOOihscCFQMFwwodlBUDXg

If you current vehicle insurer covers you for the first year on a new for old basis on a brand new car, this company allows you tondefer the 1st years cover
Same as me ;) they also say that if a newer model than the one you have comes out they will upgrade to that newer model, they will not mess around looking for the older/your model or try to pay out less.

I agree with the thought that if they want to get in they will.
Door locks great but my elderly Aunt (pronounced aren't not ant) was broken into they removed the whole window from the rear of her house, casement the lot.

However it is possible to try and persuade them to go elsewhere with the addition of burglar alarms, cctv disclock etc. Just reduces the risk but doesn't remove it.

They find trackers and disable them easily now. I advise simple steering locks because it'll really put them off and slow them down. I've seen many stolen recovered vehicles and most of the high end ones always have the loads of interior trim missing where they've ripped out the tracker. I've even met people who claim to be the other side of the law explaining how easy they are to steal with all this new technology...my personal recommendation is go old school.

Unless I'm totally out of touch I thought steering locks could be disarmed in about 30secs? At least that's what I saw on a documentary a few years ago.

Yep you can only slow them down if they come prepared:

A better idea:

Not to be a smart **** or anything, but if someone is going to use that pedal jack, why not put it on the accelerator pedal so they couldn't take off in the first place? lol

I suppose they could tow it away and still use the brake to stop!?!? Tow it away without being able to use the brake = bang bang lol :D
