Anyone interested in some custom laser work bling?

The last paper template I did before the final modifications. The latest design has a nice radius at the back instead of the rough looking bit

Might be worth trying that with a relentless manifold as the one I linked to was at an angle to deal with the way they stick up

Is it the pipe here at the bottom you're referring to?

If anyone has one, how much higher does it sit than the OE cast mani?

I wish I could get a pic of mine to show but its in at Bills for a while being fitted.

I found some images on a google search which MAY help.

The looks to poke up as far as the outlet of the coldside!? Think I might have to revise my drawing to leave it high until you get to the turbo.

If it looks like the one above it will be easier to adapt to my setup :)

Middle ones mine tee hee hee

I defo need one, the manifold is only a few mm from the silicone pipe off the turbo

Haha, I thought at least one of those pics would be of somebodys on here. That does look very close there Scotty, have you had any scorching on the silicone yet?

Steve

Not yet, ive managed to re use the silver heat blanket thing but its burnng through that slowly. Not ideal. I really could do with one of these shiuelds and the forge flourosilicone pipe

Does that oil feed/return line sit proud above the part that would usually hold the charge pipe? If so, by how much, if I can make one part that covers everything, then everyone is happy :)

I'd say between £33-35 delivered, but will have to wait to get a quote for the laser cutting and braking. Could be a little less, but certainly not the £45 the first ones in the link were!

Too custom realistically to do that tbh... make them for the K04's etc and I can mod it... the one I linked too would fit with mods... you make yours like that and all will be good... :)

Here's a rough photo of what the coil pack cover will look like:

Nothing fancy, just clean an functional.

I'm thinking of totally re designing the heat shield as I'm not happy with the current design. I don't like how the one in the link has a random tab you have to bend yourself either. Just feels a little bodged for me and I want it perfect! I'll have another look tomorrow as I've got a lambda sensor to fit anyway.

Do you think It will be possible to fit the coil pack cover and the exhaust manifold heat shield together?
I don't want my coil pack wiring melting or the boost hose ha ha

Yea, I'll make sure that they can be nested over each other and then use the same bolts to clamp them both down.

Just been to have a quick play and have been thinking, is it really necessary to have it running all the way along? Air entering at the front of the car will wash over and down the back, so keeping an opening will be good to maintain airflow around the exhaust mani. With that in mind, I've drawn this (then it started raining - again):

It's simple, still protects the hose, allows for big crazy aftermarket manifolds and because it is smaller, will cost considerably less.

The only advantage of having the full length one is that it provides a little protection from heat soak into the charge pipe, but reduces (cooling) airflow around the exhaust mani.

Discuss, it's just as important to get something the masses are happy with as well as I am.

I prefer the larger covered area, as the tubular manifolds radiate a massive amount of heat..

Just an idea with the coilpack cover.... Could you design it so it also works as a coilpack hold down? Kills two birds with one stone! ;)

I'd really like to see one of these tubular manis in person so I can get it perfect. Is anyone near Chesterfield/Sheffield at all?

I could do, but this wouldn't work for those with the old skool hitachi square coilpacks.

...and would require consideration for people running 1.8t coilpacks or TFSI coil packs due to the installed height difference...

Stick to it being a heat shield... the coil pack holders are pointless as the fix for coil packs popping up is to fix the oil leak that lines the coil pack area with oil so the rubber on the pack can't grip and to make a little cut out in the rubber with a knife so the expanding air from the heat of the engine can escape and thus not push the coil pack up

Ah so many variables, well pointed out paul. I'm still learning with these cars, usually I've worked on Jap cars. I'll keep my suggestions to a minimum until I know my way around them properly.

I've ordered the coilpack covers today and will be working on the heat shield this coming week. I've started to re design it too so it cover the whole of the manifold.

Price of coil pack cover and will it work with bolt down agu coils

The shield is completely separate from the coilpacks themselves, so it shouldn't matter which type you use.

As for price, I'm yet to confirm, but I imagine a plain brushed finished stainless one will be around £20 posted to forum folk, £25 with laser engraving and about £30+ with custom designed laser engraving (size depending).

As the heat shield contains quite a few bends, these might be a little more as it's the bending that really bumps up the cost.

UPDATE: I'm collecting the coil pack covers late this week and I think I've got a design that works with odd shaped manifolds, provides cover to the charge pipe and is also well secured without having to bend little random tabs like on the one linked to.

Just got to make some final tweaks to make sure the holes all align, then should be able to send it off. I'll get some pics up of the finished cardboard cut out in the next few days.
