Just picked up a b6 avant that's in need of a little bodywork. Firstly both its wings have rusted through as per usual

Now I'm on the look out for a pair in the correct colour but given that they are like rocking horse **** or horribly expensive I need to plan for possibly not getting any

As I know a lot of other people have had this issue I wanted to know roughly what people paid to have a pair painted and blended in? I will either get some from ECP or second hand in the wrong colour

I have done lots of searching but the threads are either very old or included other work so aren't comparable. I've never had paint work done so wanted to make sure I'm getting quotes in the right ballpark

Also how much of the car should I expect to be painted to get them blended

Thanks in advance

For both front wings and painted I would say around 500 quid

I had both mine replaced with new OE wings at a very high quality body shop and if I remember it was only about £500 all in painted and fitted. Couple of years ago though.

Blimey! I got two new front wings for £80 and had my friend spray them for free (well in return for a few favours I've done for him in the past but essentially free).

Insurance job last year - one genuine wing, painted and fitted and also fixed and feathered the minor damage to the leading edge of the door - £750 insurance claim.

Quote from a local body shop to replace the other which is beginning to go - non genuine ("it'll last 4 years Sir") - £200.

Cheers folks

Yeah I know you can get pre painted ones but there's no guarantee that the colour will match so rather not risk that

Will do some shopping around and see what quotes I get. Annoyingly the car is silver so a pig to colour match

I bought two brand new insurance approved wings (not OEM though) on ebay for £40 each delivered. I fitted them myself and had them sprayed (metallic silver) and blended for £75, including undersealing the rears. You can't tell they're not genuine as the fit is perfect.
That puts the total at £155 for two wings. Granted I had to fit them myself, but it saved me a lot of cash and I like working on cars.

Pre-painted wings will never match the rest of the car for a number of reasons:
The paint colour can vary slightly between batches or who mixes it.
The car will have faded slightly with age
The metal flake shows up differently depending on the direction it has been sprayed in.

The only way to get wings to match the doors is to blend them in, so buying wings in the correct colour at a premium is a waste of money.

My BMW has also had a new front wing that I had painted (metallic grey) prior to fitting and it looks great most of the time, but in direct sunlight, it stands out a mile from the other paint. It needs blending in at some point. Not blending them to the doors will irritate you every time you look at the car!

That sounds better, £150 ish all in and I'll be a happy man. Just need a day to go round getting quotes now
