Windows 10

I installed the beta a few months back and despite not updating it had the same background picture which was cool (and weird). If your updating it should retain all your data as it has the same file structure but personally I've always backed up all data and installed a fresh version of any new operating systems as it will generally run a bit quicker and have no issues with previously installed software.

My laptop doesn't have cd drive, and I have no means to back it up, hence asking the question. Probs keep it on Windows7, as its an old laptop I use at work.

I would stick with 7 for a while and wait for some of the bugs to get knocked out of 10. It's almost guaranteed that something won't work on 10 that does on 7 or you will lose something. If you want to back files a large capacity USB is the best way to go or just buy a portable drive they are cheap enough.
I have only just upgraded from XP to 7 in the last 6 months, will be a while before I move on again.
I had to have a look on the net to see what happened to windows 9 and apparently 7 8 9 .

My computer keeps asking me to upgrade, but I'm on a 64bit version of Win7, so not sure if it'll drop a 64bit version of Win10 over the top or not.

Also, I think I'll wait a few months (as said above) for them to fix some bugs...

To be honest, I'm the 'if it isn't broke, don't fix it' type. Probably stick with Windows7. My Works laptop doesn't have touch screen, and the processor is a bit slow, so Wondows10 would probably kill it...

You get 21 day's to go back to your old system after you upgrade.

i reserved an upgrade, not even going to think of asking it to trigger until a good few months down the line to get some of the initial bugs out the way. even then, if it's looking to be more laptop/touch oriented than PC i'll ignore it and stick w/ W7, which i love.

I finally got around to upgrading, I barely use my laptop to be honest so didn't even bother backing it up, just cracked right on. No problems so far, automatically told me what drivers need updating (was only my video car drivers) done that now and all is good, cant fault it personally. seems to combine the best of 7 and 8

I havent done so yet, but will do so soon on a tablet that I have, only heard good things about it really.

I came across one issue today, my wifi card on the laptop was playing up, wouldn't connect, and when i could get it to connect it would drop after a few mins. Went into device manager, right clicked, selected update drivers, problem fixed :D

Yeah that's probably for the best with newer operating systems and older machines, if you change your mind or need a hand or anything feel free to drop us a message, I love messing with computers it's literally my job haha.

Could always check out something like Zorin OS if you fancy a change, works great on older machines and even my parents are fans (coming from Windows).

Been using a few hours now, saved all my data fine ( i did a back up though)
My volume wasn't working so had to sort that, seems ok

Damn I was really looking forward to my copy until I realised it needed a product key haha, will probably nick one from work tomorrow. I'm a bit of an operating systems pimp I use them all.
