Think my S3 has occasional hesitation at 2700rpm

Has anyone experienced an occasional slight hesitation, during acceleration, going through 2700rpm in 3rd gear (Manual box)? It doesn't happen every time and if I try to get it to repeat it seems OK. Then at a later occasion I'll be convinced its done it again.
I suspect its something to do with the fueling as the turbo starts to come in, but wondered if anyone else had experienced this.

No try try some different fuel maybe ? I also use individual mode.

Have used only the 'posh' Shell unleaded since new. Will try playing with modes though.

Yes I have had some similar hesitation.. was going to book it in to get looked at but it is not consistent! :[

I'm thinking booking it in for an 'intermittent' problem is going to be a waste of time and effort, especially given Audi dealers' attitude to larger consistent noises!
I'll wait until this, or the rattle on the dash, develops to a point where it stops being intermittent then get them both fixed.

Is it mapped and how many miles?

Usual cause of this is either plugs or coilpacks especially if the car has been mapped.

No, car is 'unmolested' with only 4k miles on the clock. I've been having repeated 'experiences' from day one but its a slight thing and occasional so its one of those things that only surfaces as a reminder every once in a while during normal driving.
I was rather hoping there were loads of owners who'd noticed it too, then it would be a 'known fault'. Maybe I just need to keep the needle above 3000rpm!
If its plugs or coilpacks then I can expect the problem to develop.

Thanks, all, for input.

The problem with a lot of these things is the lack of errors thrown up.

Coilpacks and plugs along with a lot of other similar faults seldom produce obvious error pointers and you are left with a car that's "not right" but has nothing the dealer will fix.

Good luck.

A misfire from a coil pack/spark plug that would cause a hesitation usually flickers the engine warning light at you as its happening.

What fuel are you using? You mentioned Shell, but Shell 95 or Shell 99?

Does the hesitation present itself on the rev counter, i.e does the needle quickly rise and then fall to sync back to where it should be with the speedo?

I have had a fluctuation on the revs and a spike on the boost gauge on 1 or 2 occassions.. felt weird when it happened.

Only ever put in V-Power!

Think I will book it in to get checked over, was supposed to be back in to have steering looked at too so will combine both problems.

Andy, a fluctuation in revs is clutch slip, torque is too much for the pressure plate to grip and transfer the drive, so it slips, as soon as the torque decreases so the pressure plate grips again, the drive re-engages and off you accelerate.

The reason for clutch slip is a lazy style of driving, i.e using flat out acceleration from low revs in high gear and not being ***** to drop the gears.

Usually presents itself with tuned cars.

The best way to test for clutch slip is, put it in 6th at 35mph and put your foot flat to the floor, if the revs rise out of sync, it's the clutch. Cylinder misfire caused by fuelling issues wouldn't cause a mismatch in the revs vs speedo.

I've only ever used Shell V-Power.

Definitely not clutch slip - I had this on the TTS, which had a chocolate clutch - this is a slight hesitation (not misfire/missed beat as such) on the way past 2700rpm under heavy throttle, not a rev rise and fall. So using torque in 3rd, not ragging it.

Hi Leo.

It doesn't always trigger a warning light.

I could feel mine misfiring with no lights or error codes.

I never drive like that.. if I am going slow in a higher gear and want to accelerate then I will drop through the gears!

Would that also cause a spike in the boost gauge?

My hesitation comes in as I am accelerating up through the gears, not flat out but just normal acceleration.

Or maybe it is just because I can't drive properly.. haha

Not had it myself thankfully, hopefully you get it to reproduce at the dealer

Is it a fuel blockage/starvation issue ?

The car is not super responsive when tootling about in a high gear at low revs....to get a better response I drop down through the gears, often two gears...maybe try a different driving style.
