Hi guys so i bought a 2010 audi a4 s-line came with 6 months warrenty.

3 weeks ago. About a week after owning it i noticed a judder/shudder when taking off in first gear, when releasing the clutch.. happens in the morning or when my car is sitting a while. Drives ok any other time.

I called the dealer and he basically tried to tell me that all audi a4's do this and its nothing to be worried about... i insisted that he checks it over none-the-less.

I took it to him today and he again tried to tell me the same thing again.

My concern now is that he'll not even check it over and just hand the car back... he did tell me that he would get the mechanic to just give it a clean.... im guessing hes talking about the flywheel or something.

If when i collect the car he informs me that its 100% and needs no work done can i take it to an audi specialist to get a second opinion and if the specialist recommends that i infact do need a clutch... where to i stand.... can i go back to the dealer and tell him my findings and is the dealer then obliged to grant me my wish or does he have the right to refuse to do the work as his mechanic says it needs no work.

Thanks in advance. Supanova

100% B.S mate have 80,000 on mine plus map still no judder or vibrations
Ring the warranty company tell them when it started an that you reported it to the dealer
For second opinion prob end up paying for the diagnosis

How many miles has the car done ? If there is an issue with the clutch then it's very unlikely that the warranty would cover it as the clutch is a wear item. There is little that the garage is likely to do or can do without actually pulling the gearbox which is a big job. And if they did you may as well replace the clutch whilst it's out.
I would say that you have done your best to point out a possible issue with the car but there's not a lot more you can do other than drive the car and try and enjoy it.

The car has 93k on the clock. If i do get it back and try to enjoy it my question is that if and when the clutch goes/breaks will it do more damage or is it just the matter of replace clutch and away i go... does it do damage to the likes of the engine etc if i dnt catch it before it breaks. Also what is the standard rough price to replace the clutch etc. Cheers guys.

well i would agree karl but not in the 1st week off ownership 14 days return of goods would have came into play for me with them sorry excuses from a dealer

Im just unsure of what to do if the dealer tells me that its fine... what do i do then?..... what CAN I do? I dont think they work with an actual warrenty company but give there own inhouse warrenty and do all the necessary work themselves.

Im actually in the middle of buying a house as well and i dont particulary want to shell out almost 1k to sort a clutch out as id rather put that cash in on the deposit so if i need a clutch i need to get it done under warrenty.

Just while im asking.... what DOES a warrenty actually cover? Lol

hmmm now do you have a warranty agreement ?

Ahhh good question. Id need to get the papers out. On the ad it says there is 6 months warranty and he verbally told me when i bought it but id have to double check if there is paperwork to back it up.

But what does a warranty cover?

If it has a warranty then it should have come with some paperwork describing what that is actually covered.I have never had a warranty on any car I have bought, In my experience most of the time they are a waste of time and not worth the paper they are written on. There are so many exclusions and get outs and quite often even if the warranty pays out you still seem to end up having to pay some money out.

Second hand car from a dealer
When you buy a second hand car from a dealer, you have the right, under the Sale of Goods Act, to expect the car to:

  • be of satisfactory quality (taking into account its age and mileage)
  • meet any description given to you when you were buying it ( whether in the advert or in discussions prior to sale)
  • be fit for the purpose (for example, to get you from A to B safely).
If the second hand car does not meet these requirements, you have a right to claim against the dealer for breach of contract.

If something you buy is not 'as described', or if the seller is guilty of misrepresentation, you are entitled to:

  • give the second hand car back and get your money back, or
  • if you want to keep the car, ask for compensation (usually the cost of any repairs it needs)
But, if you buy a second hand car that was not described as being in excellent condition or good working order, and it breaks soon after you buy it, you don't have any right to reject it, or to claim compensation.

Does your clutch pedal get harder after very long journey or when you drive it hard for longer time? Mine does it and I have a slight judder as well. It's been the same for last two years and 20k miles. Really annoying. Read on a5oc that people had their clutches changed and problem wasn't sorted. One guy changed his master cylinder and that fixed it. I'm going to see a specialist in two weeks time and see what he'll say. Hope you get yours sorted and warranty covers that. Waiting for updates.

Make a record of the dates you contacted the seller and what was said and done.
It's probably not too late to reject the car as it played up within a week, that's the best way to go as the warranty is very unlikely to exclude wear parts and this includes the clutch.
Or just shop around for a replacement clutch and dual mass flywheel, pay the grand and put it down to experience. Choice is yours.

Clutches are never covered by warranty as its a wear and tear item unless it has failed for some other reason which is unlikely.
Might be the dual mass flywheel which warranties normally cover. I had this on my B7, it juddered under hard acceleration in 4th or 5th, and vibrated when at standstill as if being blown by wind

I bought a mini last year , from a mini dealer, and had the clutch when it started playing up 3 weeks after buying it . Another mini dealer diagnosed and replaced the clutch . It was a mini insured warranty , also had a water pump replaced and abs pump replaced? Needless to say , when the warranty ran out I got rid !

Did replacing the flywheel fix it? Dealer told me hed get machanic to clean it. . Sounded a bit dodgy to me.

The mechanic probably squirted brake cleaner on the clutch, this may help for a while, just long enough to make sure your rights to reject the car are exhausted.

Mine done that. Same car. Found to be some bent fingers on clutch pressure plate. Get it sorted and buy a new friction plate! Cost would have been nearly £2k!!!
