8V VCDS Mods

I've heard there's no microphone fitted on the cabriolet, on a cnet on cars episode but this was a US spec and about a year ago... Is this really the case?
I believe that one of the main differences between EU and US spec cars is indeed the level of pre-wired equipment but am sorry to say that I am not too sure what would be included during a US build (am assuming you are US as you mentioned cnet).

I would pop open the reading light unit in the headliner and see if there is a mic in there.

I'm actually in the UK and getting an A3 sportback but was just curious. And there won't be a headliner which is why cnet made the comment surely audi wasn't lazy enough to just not bother to put it elsewhere and figure how to solve the wind noise

All Audi A3's including the Cabrio (all be it a little different in construction) have a headliner. If you are in the UK then you will have a mic, alarm, Nav prep etc, and the your SB should come with SDS Voice Control from the dealer so all good :)

Anyway, after a bit of digging around:

Unlock / Activate SDS
  • Control Module 5F
  • Long Coding
  1. Byte 18 - Bit 2 -> From 0 to 1 *
  2. Byte 24 - Bit 1 -> From 0 to 1
  3. Byte 18 - Bit 2 -> From 1 to 0 *
  • MMI reset
* Assuming this is to reset something

No idea / no way of testing this myself so not sure if it works.

I test drove an S3 cabriolet just to compare manual to DSG and whilst chatting to the sales guy about how crap the 8P voice control was he said the 8V cabriolets don't have it fitted due to noise interference.
Whether the wiring is there to enable it later I don't know but UK cabs supposedly don't have it enabled from new.

I see you have a Cabrio as do I but I don't have a VCDS cable yet. Have you tried enabling voice control? Nothing to do with your issue but I'm just interested to see if it can be done.

cheers

I wouldn't use it so not really looked into it

Just wondering if anyone tried retrofitting/adding drive select using VCDS?
My first post here, but I was wondering the same - was able to only get Drive Select up on the MMI with no options using VCDS, so it's useless..:
09-Central electric:
[Long Coding] Byte 7, bit 5, change 0 to 1 - (Tells the car Drive Select is installed)

I ended up ordering the strip with DS included - 8V0 925 301 K - has DS, park sensor/rear view cam, hazards, ESC on/off, screen up/down and the pass airbag light. Radio removal tools get it out. Did some additional digging round and turns out it's a retrofit kit with additional wiring included and you need the strip. Just ordered kit 8V0 063 765 for my automatic US 2015 8V from BKS and will see how it goes. 8V0 063 765 A is the manual apparently and I'm told it'll all show up in MMI. I think you can set things like steering via VCDS but having no control to change it on and off in MMI would be a pain with us not seemingly having a hidden menu in our MMI to enable something called "Charisma". Anyway, all tolled I'm being taxed around $350 for this and will pm you what it's like so this doesn't go off topic. I can do a write up on a new thread or something. Hope this helps.

Any ideas to reset "Driving profiled for range remaining" adaptation from 17-Instruments Adaptation List

This value changes depending on your previous driving profile and adapts remaining range.
It is found under 17-Instruments' Adaptation Channel.

Is there a way to display battery voltage on the MMI? can't seem to find anything??

There is a MMI Battery Voltage level display adaptation but when coded it does not work. The Golf 7 DIS display method does not work also.

There are a number of additional displays / functions which have adaptations but do not work when coded - oil level, rain closing etc. On other MBQ platforms you need to factory reset the "MMI" units in order to get the menus pop. All systems bar the "CAR" can be factory reset on our Audi's at this moment in time :(

Did anybody manage to get the auto dipping mirror when reversing who didn't have the factory fitted folding mirrors? I was reading on here about somebody trying it but I can't find anywhere where they have posted the results?

Yes.
I have had it done on mine.

I have many many more Adaptations and Codings to add (in addition to the placeholders) but need the time in order to test and document them :( Feedback always welcome.

BTW Beta 15.6.1 has been released :)

Would you mind posting the link to the document on here? I'm on holiday at the min so I can only access the forum via the app and I can't get access to your sig for the link?

Cheers

+1 to this.

And if it is possible can it be added to DJAlex' document?

+1 to this too, past few days i've been tipping the driver one too when parking in bays next to tree's etc... being extra careful since I curbed a wheel last week :sob:....

Perhaps the starting point would be to find out if the passenger dip can be programmed to work without the switch in the passenger position, as the right mirror would probably be able to dip (as its the passenger mirror in LHD cars) but if theres no way around the switch, finding out if this will work may be useless....

Is anyone aware of a way to add messages to the phone MMI menu using VCDS? Mine is not what I think is called the tech package in the UK. It's the low res no nav one. Did a search on the phone compatibility site and the Sony Xperia Z3 should be supported (Z1 is) but it appears the basic radio doesn't support messaging so figured it's just software not hardware related. Cheers.

Not something I have looked to / tested as I have this from the factory and did not want to "break" it for my car while playing around lol. A friend of mine has asked for this but I am not gonna get a chance to code their car for another 3 weeks as I am jetting off on business / holiday tomorrow. In the meantime if anyone knows of the coding I will happily add it to the document.

If anyone on here with VCDS and a Euro Spec / LHD car can supply me with their adaptation maps I can try and reverse engineer the RHD drivers mirror dip, not sure it will work tho as the adaptation channel, if I remember correctly, is called "passenger drawdown" and I think this references the long coding which tells the car if its right or left hand drive and thus maps the passenger mirror accordingly if you get what I mean...

There are a number of label files within VCDS which are yet to be completed by RossTech so it's hard to tell whats possible at the moment. If I can get an adaptations map of a tech pack car I can reference this against a SD Nav / Radio car (i have these maps already) and see whats possible.

On a side note, while I am away and as Greek TV is just soooooooo ***** in the evenings, I am planning to update and overhaul the document :)

Module 52 Long Coding for my car = 001086205E01040000001002 (Passenger)
Module 42 Long Coding for my car = 00108E205C01040000001002 (Drivers)

So it might be possible to get the drivers mirror to dip if Byte 04 is changed from 5C to 5E. Will take a look this evening.

When we manage to meet up Alix you'll be able to get a Tech Pack high map.

Just met up with marshalld, top bloke and very very nice car! Grabbed the needed TechPack Ad Maps so should be able to work out what possible within the next few days.

Good to meet with you too Alix, the compliments are coming straight back at you.

I'm somewhat ashamed about the dirtiness & cobwebs on my car compared to yours. Think a thorough wash is on the cards for tomorrow...

Thanks for making my car 'chirp' on lock/un-lock & setting up the wiper service mode in the MMI.

Enjoy the holiday & don't come back with an area of untanned stomach that is the size & shape of an apple macbook!!

So I have been digesting the TechPack adaptation map and there is no way of adding SMS messages etc to the standard MMI, via this method anyway. Only three other possible methods:

1) Someone works out how to get into the hidden green menu with the MMI.
2) RossTech update the label files for the long coding options.
3) Someone hack the MMI / Nvidia software.

I think Messages will need 3 to be honest.

Interestingly there are some big and odd differences between the TechPack and normal MMI systems. Will post up a comparison sheet next week. I have found how to change the region of the DVD player tho and is a blue ray option also. Also interesting is dedicated profiles for both apple and android which are both deactivated by default.

Cheers mate for looking into this. That hidden green menu appears elusive on the 8V.. Was at the dealership earlier and asked about SMS and they had no clue. They're emailing Audi to ask though but it seems like a lot of hassle over something relatively minor. They're also asking about the hidden menu... That said, I was told my car couldn't have the auto dip passenger mirror last time I was in, and now it does thanks to your help, so I guess anything is possible.

A lot of the guys working for / at Audi do not really know what can be done with tools like VCDS / VCP. Although there are master tech's most of the work is "Assisted" fault finding and servicing. Basically they plug a car in to their VAS system, it phones home to Germany, works out the issue (maybe) and then screen pops a fault rectification / servicing guide on the screen to the tech to follow. It's kinda like reading instructions and building an Ikea table.

I remember the fist time my 8V went in for an investigation. I gave them a raid log / spreadsheet of my issues and at the bottom noted all the VCDS mods I have completed at that time (6 or 7 maybe) and asked them not to wipe them as I did not have my own VCDS cable at the time. I also requested that they turn on my dash illumination permanently. When I collected the car a tech came out and asked me loads of questions as he had no idea stuff like could be done lol I logged a call with Audi UK SC a little while ago also, asking how to perform a factory reset on the "CAR" as opposed to the Radio, Sat Nav etc etc (VW's can do it). Audi UK had nooooooo idea. I doubt Audi will come back with an answer to the SMS or Hidden Menu question :( A lot of damage can be caused via the so called "green" menu.

@Phil-1 once this is done - you get a checkbox in the MMI in the location listed above by @DJAlix
Ticking the checkbox puts the wipers up into the service position, un-ticking puts them back down.

It means you don't have to mess about turning the engine on & off then flicking the wiper stalk up and down to get them into the service position.
Used to take me a couple of attempts - but not anymore.
