Investigating a noisy auxiliary belt to find this lodged into the radiator fan housing. It seemed to also be lodged from one of the central pulleys, underneath the tensioner. It pulled out very easily. Wasn't stuck. Most of it was in the pulley/belt area.

Seems it used to be circular though has clearly snapped and mangled. I'm trying to convince myself it popped up from the road but given how high up it was and the under tray in situ I know that's doubtful.

Does anybody know what it is?

No symptoms apart from the remaining rattle and no air con (have ordered new compressor pulley though that sits lower than where I found this object).

Thanks for any replies!

Looks like the underwire from a bra, B or C cup.

I fished something almost the same as that out of the washing machine the other week, and as stated above it was a under wire from a bra.

It could quite easily be from the aircon pulley, it could have been thrown up by the spinning pulley. There is a circlip like that which would hold the front part of the aircon pulley in place.

Greeny223 - most logical answer there - I agree, it looks like a circlip.

10 points all -it was indeed the air con pulley circlip.

The compressor had seized forcing the pulley's front plate off -the circlip couldn't hold it back. So in my experience, if you find a circlip floating around and your pulley's face plate down in your undertray, then sadly it's a new compressor (and not just the pulley).
