Bet this have been asked before S3 and RS3 whats the difference 2015

If you can afford the RS3, go for it.
It's a better car than the S3, no doubt, but isn't special enough for me, will never represent value for money, and I'd suggest isn't actually worth the premium over a well discounted S3, as, for me, it comes with the same flaws.
Must have the sports exhaust if you do go that route!

If you really are set on the A3 8v platform, then it's down to your personal circumstances and disposable income which way you go.
There are, as mentioned, a lot of cars out there in the same category as these, so take your time and test a few out.

Enjoying this thread lol.

But as said i only need info on S3/RS3. Ive been looking at a lot of cars lately and its been over these cars or S4 and 5.

Wanted to know if the extra money was worth it but i guess its something i have to see for myself i guess.

I've not driven one yet but will, it obviously will be quicker and I've heard the noise is something special.

In a honest opinion I drove a A45 with performance exhaust and had to get myself a can of diet coke and 2 paracetamol after going out in it for 2 hours when I got back to the dealers.

Oops.....ok so keeping on topic here is a bit more of a 'factual' response as a current S3 soon to be RS3 owner who is happy to accept their flaws, so, here is some info:

Now Initially I have listed a 'trio' of reasons but may 'spread my brush a little wider' if needed.......

I have posted a link in the appropriate section of the RS3 review by Chris Harris in which he mentions the S3 for the OP to review (Fact)

I have written up my S3/RS3 test drive comparison for people in the appropriate RS3 section (Fact)

I've actually ordered an RS3 to replace my current S3 (Fact)

On a lighter note:

I was disappointed yesterday at GTI I came over especially to see the "HULK" and it wasn't there was hoping to have a chat and share a burger with you.

Share a burger? They should have ****** more so that you could have had one each.......

Think the order book is closed now on the S4 but you may find some dealer stock. 4k deposit contribution on an S5.

Congrats! Your big day will be here soon. :redface new:

Could do an audi-sport.net photo shoot with Hulk as the wedding car - who needs HELLO magazine !?

Thats what I'm thinking! Looking into the S5. As much as i do love the look of the RS3 i still don't think it has the same good looks as the S5.

I know it says they give 4k but i wonder if i could get anymore off?

@Eigdoog - Have you tried the online brokers yet?
Carwow, carfile, orangewheels, drivethedeal etc

These are usually a good place to start and then go into your local Audi dealer with the best deal and see what they can do

Yesterday I had at my office the owner of one of the biggest luxury car (multibrand) dealer of my city. We had a conversation together about various things. He told me that he is going to receive two RS3 in some months but he drove it and it disappointed him. He told me that the performances and handling gap between the S3 and the RS3 does not justify the price gap (about 8000 EUR).

^ Yep. I would say that in terms of performance and handling, the A45 will be the benchmark, especially with that proper, mechanical front diff. The A45 is also close to 50:50 balance.

There's only so much you can do with Haldex before you start running into compromise territory.

What do people expect? it's already quicker than the RS4, Equal to the RS5 and only 0.2 slower to 60 than the RS6.

RS6 is 3.8, A45 AMG is 4.2 and RS3 is 4.4 I think.

I can't help feeling the RS3 has had its balls chopped off to fit into the RS lineup.

It's fast but could have been faster I think.

Improved balance? Less detached steering? Permanent AWD? A proper diff?

Or at least carbon inserts as an option? Or buckets (coming soon I guess)? Or maybe MMI high as standard? And don't get me started on the wheel choices! It is an RS after all...isn't it?

Don't get me wrong...I liked the RS3 when I drove it. But once the initial excitement had worn off, I was left a bit underwhelmed!

I love my S3. Am very aware of it's shortcomings, but can accept these at £35k. Would be less happy to accept similar (not the same!) shortcomings at £45k.

The answer to your original question is right here in your quote..........................if you can afford an RS3 buy an S5, it's that simple ;)

0-60 is such a crap statistic, unless you're interested in drag runs or racing people away from lights. My old Subaru Impreza would be close to a 5 second 0-60 but in reality was no faster than a Civic Type-R, as that struggled to get it's power down .. once up a running and grip wasn't an issue, they were pretty well matched.

I'm more interested in 60-100, and I used to like the magazine (can't remember which one) that did 0-100, 30-70 through the gears and times for 20 mph increments in 2/3/4/5th gear, that way you could get an idea of the flexibility of the engine, or how high geared it was etc.

So for example, a 330i was pretty consistent 20-40, 40-60, 60-80 in 3rd .. a tuned Scoob might have been crap 20-40, 40-60 but then hammered the BMW 60-80.

I cannot imagine who would buy a car purely on it being 0.2 secs quicker to 60 ..

The RS3 has a cracking engine, looks are subjective but I'd have liked to have seen more flared arches, better seats, maybe alcantara dash etc. different alloys and a rear biased haldex (if it has to be haldex) system.

The point I was trying to get across was that Audi have to keep it in line with the bigger RS models.

Why would anyone buy an RS4/5 if it's little brother is more aggressive, faster ( whether 0-60 or 60-100), bigger arches or what ever else.

I've seen so many comments saying "it's not much faster than my S3 so no point in paying that extra money for it". Hence my comment, what are these people expecting.

Now that its official that they are going to do an RS3 sedan it will be interesting to see if they pump those arches or change anything mechanically...but as people have rightly said, its part of a line up....but maybe....just maybe it will win more people over....and just in time for when I'm needing to change the S3 :)

A dealer told me it's happening a few months ago but it's 100% official now is it?

Now what colour is the club sport, electric blue. That would look sweet on a RS3 saloon.
