What have you done today?

Took my mk2 for an MOT which was due last month. Passed easily with no advisories, though the tester did acknowledge it's an old car! lol

Mileage covered since 2012! lol

Also had this arrive for my S3. Just need to buy some gauges. :)

Off with the head. The little issue of a small puff of blue smoke upon start up would seem to be from the valve stem seals. Cylinders 1 & 4 seem to be the culprits.

I've been putting my Leon cupra R calipers back together!

Hi mate. Where did you buy these and for what price. By late model to you mean 8p?
They're off a late model MK4/LCR/R32 etc etc. I decided to go with VAG wipers and they've made a massive difference over the aftermarket Bosch ones that were on there before.

I haven't noticed any issues at all with the 'speed lift' that Jojo mentioned.

Not a lot today but was washing and claying a friends car so I can sell it for him and decided to wash, clay and wax my A3 and fit my German plates.

Had a wrestling match with my new miltek 3" downpipe and decat. Had to flatten one side to try and miss the subframe but didn't work :triumph: so in the end I raised the engine by putting some washers under each engine mount bolt to clear the downpipe from the subframe and heat shield. Wish i'd done that first

Change my fuel filter today, was so scared of breaking the fuel line clips but once you get the method right its so easy...little force is required!

did my fuel filter too - pretty easy and made sure to press those clips before pulling!

wanted to change rocker cover gaskets but these ******** didn't want to play

Wish I knew that before! LOL

This is me now when I see a Torx in the engine bay :crying: ... Hate them!

Fitted my armrest that I got from drstu of this forum.

Then spent 6 hours cleaning and leather conditioning all the seats in my 2003 S3. They look amazing now.

I really should start a thread in readers rides.

Today I dropped the sump off to clean the pick up for piece of mind and filled it up with 5w40 quantum platinum and a new filter.
Fitted a tdi centre pipe, new discs and pads, chapped out my broken abs sensor only to find the new one is wrong. Fitted a new top mount bearing, changed a couple of bulbs and bashed the guts out my mates cat as it had collapsed.

Not that impressed by the noise difference with the tdi pipe so might bash my own cat out in the next couple of days.

I'd buy a proper 3 inch decat standard down pipe on ko3/s is massively restrictive

replaced the 51-63mm adaptor on my intercooler pipework because the old one had gone really soft and wasn't staying on very well any more. thought it might have been causing the lack of boost problems i've been having. new one is on but still not boosting all the way up :( had it checked for codes with vagcom, 0 codes, had the actuator pressure tested, actuator is fine... in for a smoke test next i guess!

A little re-routing of the inter cooler pipework and the fitting of the Badger 5 TIP to the OEM air box. The air box needed a little modifying by cutting off the locating lug to allow for a steeper angle for the air box to marry up to the inlet pipe.

Your DV is the wrong way round

<tuffty/>

Just out of curiosity. I know they come standard the other way around but in my head it makes more sense to have it the way Ian has installed it.

That way at the top you have boost from the inlet manifold pressing against boost from the charge pipe, meaning the dv shouldn't leak under boost.

Then once boost in the inlet manifold is lost you have boost on the bottom of the dv (from the charge pipe) trying to open the spring and vacuum on the top (from the inlet manifold) also opening the spring. Therefore the air can recirculate back into the TIP easily

Any disadvantages that I don't know about?

Last night I mostly refurbed my trusty iPod Video... 10 years old, still on its original battery, screen and hard drive... thats at least 9 years, 11 months and 28 days longer than any of my kids iPhones seem to last :)

The screen had 'lines' on it from backlight issues and hard drives older than 3 years always makes me nervous... the headphone socket was a little dodgy and would pause playback for no reason and I got a clickwheel as mine looked used... with parts becoming thin on the ground and Apple no longer pushing an 'iPod' product worth having (the classic being the last of the decent iPods imo) I collected a bunch of parts and got stuck in..

All ready for surgery... mines a 60gb Video (iPod 5) so I bought an 80gb hdd as an upgrade... this as it turns out was a bit of a fail... the logic board in my iPod is the early type that doesn't support the larger hdd... DOH!!... non of the research I did into changing the hdd mentioned that... only when looking into where people have fitted 240gb hdd's did this little gem crop up...

The logic board for the iPod 5 has a part number of 820-1763-A which in itself comes in two versions... one with 32mb on board and the other (mine) with 64mb on board memory... this is for buffering the music files to increase battery life... 30gb iPods got 32mb, 60gb and bigger got 64mb... what I needed was the logic board from the later iPod Video 5.5 which supports the larger hdd (part number 820-1975-A) and also comes as 32mb (30gb) or 64mb (80gb >)... 64mb boards are like rocking horse poop so I have found a 32mb one... it will work but reduces battery life a bit... no great shakes as it spends most of its life connected to a power source anyway..

I used this site as a guide...

Obviously I didn't realise I needed the newer logic board until I had put it all together and was trying to restore it from iTunes... obviously it was failing and I spent an hour trying to sort before stumbling on this information... DOH!!

Put the old hdd back in and all was good again...

I now at least have a working screen, headphone socket and battery (that was starting to bulge!!)... I can replace the hdd later once I have sourced the later logic board :)

Ultrasonically cleaned my FPR and injectors today using the guide. Very helpful.

Also changed my MAF sensor for a new OEM one from TPS along with a new OEM panel paper filter to replace the K&N that was in it.

Even although there was no fault codes showing for the MAF its night and day difference in throttle response and smoother power (car is stage 1 R-tech mapped)

I've not been able to remove the plastic cover from the front of the inlet manifold since I bought the car.

Last night I tried to drill out the two rung screws using a screw extractor set, but broke two drill bits in the process. I ended up losing my patience and took a hacksaw to the plastic cover before removing the screws with a vice grip :rage:

It was certainly the first time I've ever used a hoover in an engine bay, to lift the plastic shavings coming off the cover lol

New cover and screws ordered and something I've been been able to cross off something that's been on my to-do list the last couple of years.
