Hi all

Right, never done any wiring in a car (but done plenty of other electronics) - and what I want to do is to put a usb charging socket in the cubby hole on the underside/right of the steering wheel. Reason being is that I have my phone in a Kenu holder on my driver side/window side air vent and so want a charging cable on that side of the car.

Looking for something neat, but easy to do as well (so the less pulling apart the console the better)

So was thinking if I got one of these: http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/p/c...wer/12volt-multi-adapter/?550775060&0&cc5_826 and a http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/p/c...wer/12volt-multi-adapter/?551770532&0&cc5_826 to cover the usb port side of things less than £8.

Now to wire it in - can i just find the right fuse for the current cigarette lighter as I would like it ignition controlled and then can I use an "add a fuse piggy back" (Amazon product) wiring the live to the new cig light red wire and the black of the new cig lighter to an earth somewhere?

Does that work or is there something functionally wrong with that/bound to go wrong/stupid etc!

The fuse panel is just above the cubby hole you speak of. You could wire it up to a spare slot in there and fit an appropriate fuse.

Thanks for the reply

Your response is going to lead me to ask a noobie question. I knew the fuse panel is right next to it, but want sure how to wire it in directly so thought the add a fuse would be helpful.

Does the fuse panel come off so you wire it into the back or something? Also which fuse locations are ignition switched?

So many A4 models and they are different fuse layouts. Your handbook shows what's where. Haven't done anything on my fuse box so don't really know what's what yet. Go round with a simple voltmeter to find what spare slots liven up when ign. is switched on or Skotch lok onto the back of an existing switched fuse..
