Essexman's A3 1.8t Sport project thread

Only very early me3.8.2 ecu's can't be flashed, all the others me3.8.3 have a chip that can be flashed infinite times.

You just need to give pin 13 a 12v signal and you can flash with MPPS, I bought the fancy adapter cable but you can DiY 12v to the relevant pin

I just bought an agu flashed ecu that was immo off for £80 and that worked a treat.

I bought the above cable to flash another agu ecu myself when I put the hybrid turbo on

Did you have to take the lower dash apart?
I've just been upside down with much swearing in the footwell trying to get mine out but can't reach it properly, lol

I apologise to Audi, but that switch/ area has been (and probably will be) so tempremental That i cut an area away for easier access, (ill try and get pic)(out of sight & no harm),
And yes Upside down swearing is mandatory for this part :) ,
by the way the best switch yet that has worked the longest for me is from GSF, but honestly even that stopped working- rather than keep getting new ones i got as much inside the switch as poss & found out it had a bit of extra plastic on the slider inside from factory, only tiny, but enough to make it want to get caught on itself, so shaved this tiny bit of plastic off then done the best mod ever- packed slider area with correct grease, put it back together again, & dare i speak too soon- its been working to this day, eek

Busy weekend and fresh wheels, traveled to markie d, Ipswich, (think he's on this forum) ?

Yeah thanks for that, i was already watching a couple that offer that service, i was just not to sure about sending them my ecu in the post, should anything happen, id be without an ecu etc, do you know anyone that have used that service (sent ecu- recieved back all ok) ?

Nice looking A3... The new wheels didn't look too good when off the car but when fitted they've transformed the look of it. Given it a much better stance.
Have you considered changing your headlight units to the one piece facelift type? I know yours still look to be in good condition but changing them really does knock years off of your car in terms of looks.

Cheers, Yeah the front lights are something i thought about for ages, seen lots for all different prices/ original and also the 'black background' ones,
They were off my mind, or somewhere at the back, i washed my car today, spotted a stone chip (bullett hole) right in the middle of a headlight :-( and instantly thought 'ah excuse to get facelift single unit lights', then you mention it on here, right on que lol

Yeah they're well worth going for - You'll need a grinder to remove a bit of metal where the indicator sits and you'll also need to grind a bit from the inner wing but once you're in there you'll know exactly what needs to go. Give the freshly chopped metal a quick coat of hammerite to protect the bare metal and then add your nice sparkly new headlights.

Have you ever tried a genuine switch from audi/tps

Cant believe i havent replied, must of skipped your post somehow, But no,

I first tried Ebay, £2, that failed (heat blister),

Then euro car parts £13 / didnt fit/ sent back/ gave me another, fitted, but then that failed after a little use,

Then GSF car parts £7 (which assured me it was as good as original oe),
this is the one that has been working 'up untill now' ! :-( it seems the shaft sticks in & doesnt release,

So i have now phoned Audi parts (assuming they get from tps) £24, takes 2 days to get in stock

If this one fails i think ill consider strapping some dynamite to myself in the car while holding the brake switches ;-)

Seen this once before accross the road, think he just uses hairdressers, think some of you said it was not an s3 but im sure it is (flared rear arches etc)

Loved reading this thread whilst I'm at work, keep this up! Can you give me some advice on alloys? I recently got a pair of alloys for my a3 2001, but im unsure whether they will be to wide on the front I measured the alloy and tyre at same time about 8.5"s

Not 100% sure about 8.5's , alot of others on here would know, I do know mine are 8 wide with 225/40/18 tyres & i have no probs, its also lowered to the point where the arch sits just above the tyre (tiny gap) nothing like the stock gap lol, your question also depends on your radius (17/ 18/ 19) etc & whatever the offset is, think my offset is 36

Stage 1 generic remaped ECU finaly on its way from 'Dark-tech', :yahoo: should be intresting to see the difference on top of current support mods, might do a before and after on a dyno & see what the boost guage is saying too, would be quite happy to see 200bhp with this old car !

Get it mapped quick !!!
Drive really fast and get caught by plod !!!
The hammers could use your points :D

Well this has happened today (except for the speeding bit) Mapped last night & West ham won their first game of the season 2-0 ! :) Against Arsenal Haha

As above- Little update, installed the Stage 1 mapped ECU last night

(gave the scuttle area a clean & new pollen filter while i was at it in that area)
http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/A...950434ff14d6085e2227852ef58edb580b2157&000047

Should be around 200bhp, but will see with a dyno run soon, its nice smooth power & boosts to 20psi instead of the old 10ish before,

Also replaced the thermostat/ coolant, (guage on dash seems to be reading correct now) Bought a secondhand (good cond) central locking pump so i will fit that when it arrives in the week

Have you had it on a rolling road yet ?? Quite interested to see the results on one of these maps !!!

Won Again against Liverpool & Man city away !, it must be the keyring !

My car was lower than standard when i put the new coilovers on a while back, but i just wanted that arch gap gone a little further,

Adjusted the suspention down about 'Another' 25mm, looked good, but thats where the probs are !
Needed spacers on front to keep away from wheel rub on coilovers,
Felt and sounded like the car was breaking every time you go over a speed bump (no matter what speed or how correctly you take it)
Alot of grinding noise/ rub on full lock right,
Everything rubbing/ grinding on fast country lane bumps/ corners

Just horrible, So the next day Raised the suspension back up on the front 15mm higher (so ultimately it sits 10mm lower than it did instead of the 25mm i intended) took the spacers off,

So its now at the lowest i can get it But i must add- with no spacers/ no rubbing/ grinding/ flies over any type of speed bump without eating the car/ no probs along fast bumpy bends etc. . . A nice balance of low but practical !

I'm moving on to another audi, so the car is up for sale if anyone is interested, £1500 ono, its actualy hard to say because i like this car, but i like the other one better lol, & cant afford to have both

The other car was cat d & worse than i thought, decided to stop looking over xmas & keep what i have for a while longer, why not, its being so good to me, i apologise to my A3 for threatning to sell it lol, & will apreciate it a while longer, especialy while it continues to suprise me beating newer Fiesta st's & the like in every way :)
