Ive some ideas running around in my head for mods that will require some plastic welds. No idea how it's done. Is it simply melting two parts together? Is there any special equipment to do this?

Regards
Steve

what you do is, if you have a crack this is, is grind the crack on the rear of the split so you create a v into the crack, then weld in hot plastic to fill and stick it back together then you can prep the front of the damage and paint. not sure what you need to plastic weld so ?

but if your cutting and sticking there is other things that'll do the job just as well

Yes cutting and sticking, it will be modding fog grilles to start me off on something small. To do what I want I will need to cut and weld/glue whatever a piece where there was nothing to start with. Kind of overlaying the platic for structural strength before filling and sanding.

Which leads me to another question, is there such a thing as plastic filler that can be sanded and painted?

The 'really' basic and easy way to plastic weld is to simply use an old soldering iron to melt plastic together and smooth it out. I've done this many times (including fixing a piece of my splitter yesterday). With some practice, you can get excellent results.
When you start out this way, you'll probably find that you'll need to sand and paint your creations to get them neat. With practice, you can get a really smooth, even finish.

I keep meaning to buy some of this stuff to try it out.
It quotes in the description that its a liquid plastic welder and have seen a couple of videos on youtube that shows it to look pretty good.
