android head units?? worth it ?

It's running the same software as mine, which is good. Not sure how good the mechanism would be though

Thats why I was asking, I have an 8l s3 and I want to mount gauges below the radio so I can only fit a single din head unit. When I get to doing the radio I'll give some feed back on it incase anyone is interested

Maybe it's been asked before, but are there ANY chances to get the FIS/DIS work together with one of these units, no I assume, right??[/QUOTE]

Ive tried but no go. Worked on my mkV Golf R32 though?
Steering wheel controls work ok.

thinking of getting one for the missuses motor, I have a erisin one in my BMW and it takes a good while to boot up, are these any better??

I think they all tend to boot in around 30 seconds. Most of these units are based on the same underlying architecture, with manufacturers focusing their work on OEM fitments into relevant cars.

I installed a rooted ROM on my unit and one of the benefits is that it lets you change standby time, so I've set the standby time to 1 hour. Now if I stop at a fuel station or services and come back to the car within that time it starts instantly.

thanks for that.....also what is the quality of the FM radio? I know the erisin one on my beemer is awful, the sound is all tinny

The radio reception quality is perfectly fine on my unit. The sound is indeed tinny though...

This is because the radio sound output is connected directly to the amp, rather than going through the android OS. So the only control you have for radio is the three channel EQ that is in place on the cheap amp. This removes much of the software eq controls that you get with music apps on the Android OS itself. It's the way they designed the hardware to save costs and is probably the biggest issue with these units. My workaround for this is to stream internet radio (TunedIn apps is good for this) and essentially get digital radio, with better software EQ :)

Longer-term, I plan on getting my speakers/amps upgraded to something more serious and that will include an Audison bit Ten D sound processor, which is a bit pricey, but allows for some amazing stuff to be done with EQ and removes the need for any EQ setup on the source unit.

Funnily enough I use tune in as well, although if you update the ROM which is simple enough to do, you get a better EQ with the OS.

I am looking at the 4.4 pumpkin headunit with DAB+ so hopefully this maybe better
