Hi there, this is my first post! :)

I've just started looking into buying an A6 3.0 TDI (possibly BiTDI) S-Line quattro after having one as a courtesy car while my g/f's A3 Cab was at the dealers. Should be a bit off a change from my Focus ST-3!

Anyway, the one I drove had LEDs round the rev counter and the speedo but I've noticed that this isn't on all cars, some have a printed redline. Is this to do with options fitted to the car? This one had adaptive cruise control, is that it?

Also, I noticed that some have numbers round the dial for the A/C temperature and others have blue and red rings round them. What's the difference there?

Finally, I can't believe a car in this segment doesn't have heated seats and standard!

Thanks for taking the time to read my post and I look forward to hearing from you.

Alex

If the car has the Colour Instrument Display then the red bars around the rev counter are LEDs not printed (as it is with the standard monochrome instrument display), indeed I think they may also adjust depending on the engine temp to discourage over revving when cold. The colour display also has a larger display section between the two main dials. Think ACC requires Tech Pack and that included the Colour Display along with the HDD Navigation option

Cars with numbers around the temp controls have the standard 2 Zone Climate system. cars with just red and blue have the 4 zone system that displays the selected temp in digital displays above the control and replicated on the MMI display. The 4 zone system also allows the 4 zones to be synced whilst the 2 zone system does not allow syncing. 4 Zone was made standard as part of the 2014 face lift

You are right Audi UK marketing decided heated seats should be an option. I do not have them and to be honest I do not feel it is a big issue. Others though cannot live in a car with out them

I didn't actually know that those LEDs were lit around the rev counter depending on the temperature of the engine @elan2s - thanks for that info ! Sure enough a "quick read of the manual... maybe I should read it all! :) on page 9 has it stated clearly! That's a really good idea to change the range like that.

@Catalyst82 Yep it does seem a little "tight" of Audi not to include the heated seats, but some people really don't see the need - it's a imilar thing for the electrically adjustable seats which seem to be standard on BMW and Jaguar. I've gone for front and rear heated seats on my latest A6 just to keep my wife and youngest son happy! I did hear many moons ago that most cars with heated seats as an option have the heated wiring loom embedded in the seats anyway and it's just a matter of connecting up?

Welcome to the forum, yup the Led's round the speedo show the set speed of the ACC and as said the variable redline dependent on engine temp.
Bi T's are a good giggle but took me a while to find a good speced BE one, should help residuals in a few years if the misses lets me have an RS

Hi, thanks for the informative reply, that's exactly what I wanted to know.

I doubt I'd be 'allowed' to get a car without heated seats. The girlfriend uses the heated mattress all year round!

Ha ha your partner too @Catalyst82 ! My wife complained about me spending extra money on heated seats and now uses them most of the time! (Another one that has the bed heated blanket on for most of the year!)

One quick addition here... @elan2s had said that he thought the LEDs moved depending on the engine temp... I haven't found this to show up yet. I've only had the car a couple of weeks, but on the (baby) 2 litre diesel Ultra, the red LEDs seem to stay around the 5K Rev counter mark, regardless of engine temp...

Same here.

Extra segments illuminate in cold weather temperatures. Since I bought mine in Feb, I've only seen one extra segment below 5k rpm illuminate and that was on a cold morning.

Definitely changes with temp. Also, the ACC led all come on when you cancel the cruise. I
