Rear wiper removal and blanking.

All you have to do know is remove the surround round the number plate, the Audi four rings and the S3 badge and it will even "cleaner". Don't forget the Audi four rings and the quattro badge on the front as well. Then possibly the rather stick out door mirrors. It will really look "clean" then. Just my opinion of course.

Are there any 'rules' that says a car must have door mirrors after all it has an internal rear-view mirror, unless that has been removed for a "cleaner" interior look.

Get off your high horse you child.
Just cause you don't like something doesn't give you the right to be ***** on here when someone else does.

God forbid we don't all have exactly the same cars because modifying or changing them is bad.

Slowly loosing interest in this forum...

Don't get personal, I'm far from being a child! Just having some fun really. Thought you might like some more ideas of what you could remove, although I doubt if you would like to hide the fact that you drive an S3 quattro. Do whatever you like.

I just think it's wrong not to be able to see what's happening behind you when it's pouring with rain and the rear screen is covered with rain and muck. When I took an advanced driving course with police, the instructor said at some time I may well put my clip board over the internal rear view mirror and I still expect you to be able to tell me what's behind hind you without moving your eyes to the door mirrors. He made the point that you should always know what is behind you.

You say your not being a child but then in the same paragraph continue with the same condescending tone.

But some people like to remove the wiper, why is that such a hard concept to grasp for most.

Keep a small bottle of glass cleaner and a cloth in the glove box then if you need to before a journey, give it a quick clean. Hardly rocket science

Just having some fun really

So you admit that you are trolling then? As I cant think on why you be "having fun" replying to a thread on dewipering a car, unless you're trolling.

You strike me on the kind of person that would use the term "Boy racer" and other demeaning descriptive terms quite frequently. You also come across as a massive snob. That's just my personal view of course.

Yes I'm sob, an Audi snob! Don't like all these other 'cheap' cars. Don't think I've ever used the term 'Boy racer' because I very much doubt if any members of this forum would fall into that category. Perhaps if it was a Corsa forum!

The problem with the suggestion by @Marc18 of a cloth and some glass cleaner kept in the glovebox is they would be rather difficult to use for a journey along a motorway, especially in the UK where the places to pull off are quite far between.
I use a glass cleaner and cloth to clean the insects off my front screen when I'm on a longer journey, going on holiday to Germany for example, but in Europe they have pull-off places much more frequently that on a UK motorway. My rear wiper copes well with anything on the rear screen without the need to stop at all.

Maybe, the people who remove there wiper have considered all of this but still prefer the look without it and are willing to sacrifice the wiper to have there car looking how they want?

It's an aesthetic mod that a lot of people like, get over it

Obviously aesthetics comes before safety.

Perhaps that will be the next Driver Aid. Press the button on the remote and the driver's door will un-lock and then open automatically. Perhaps Audi could add more buttons so that the driver could decide which door to open!

Your trying to be clever with smooth door handles but it's literally been done for years with door poppers.
If your gonna take the **** at least make it funny.

Ah! but has it been done by Audi.....

Looks cracking that
Done it on most my cars easy to put on defo one to do list

I'm toying with removing the engine. It makes the engine bay look so damn cluttered.

I am appalled by some of the holier-than-thou views being aired in this thread. Some people like to remove the rear wiper from their cars, because they like the aesthetic result. Ryan started this thread asking for advice from those who have done this, a few people have given that advice only for the whole thing to be jumped on by a load of guys who don't want to remove their wiper. So... don't. What on earth makes you feel you have any right to pass judgement on people who's preferences differ to your own? Dismount your collective high horses, pack away the soapboxes and get off their case.

I've given up replying to this thread now. As @Relliott6879 said, all I did was ask for advice, but was met with mostly immature pointless comments from people who've nothing better to do than put others down.

As a regional rep, I take great pride in being a part of this site and would help and give my advice to anyone I could. I would most certainly NOT give the abuse that some of you have given me on this thread!

Thanks to the guys who actually gave advice, who respected my decision to do this mod, and who appreciated and thanked me for posting photos and a bit of a 'how-to' once I'd done it.

To the people who have such strongly negative, and in some cases, almost hurtful comments...I suggest you go and have a long hard think about why you're on this site, and think how it may affect someone next time you feel like 'having some fun' and putting them down!

No I wasnt trying to be clever, I've been to lots of shows and am always amazed at what can be removed and smoothed over, I like the look. I wasnt even trying to be funny or sarcastic, just amusing. Sorry if you didnt smile, but it was worth a try.

To Ryan, if its a look you like then sod every one else, it's your car mate just do it. I'm sure it will look great. Perhaps there's too many old farts on here (sadly like me!).

If you do remove the rear wiper I'm certain we would love to see some pictures.

Some people are saying that to remove the rear wiper for aesthetic reasons is purely up the to owner. It is their car and they can do what they like. This is true to a degree, but my main concern is the safety of other road users. With a very wet and mucky rear window, which can happen in a few minutes on a motorway, the driver will not be able to properly see the traffic behind him, especially if the door mirrors are also very wet and spotty. All manufacturers put the rear wiper on hatchbacks because this is a know problem and the rear wiper enables the screen to remain clear at all times. Whilst I agree that anyone can, within the law, do what they want to their car, personally I think the removal of this item of extra safety is very selfish and does not give adequate consideration to other road users for no other reason that looks. To me it's part of the I do what I want and sod everyone else culture. And yes I'm probably a sad old fart as well as many others who were taught to drive in a time when your duty to other road users was considered an important part of driving.

I'm steering clear of the rest of the issues, but IMHO the door mirrors remain exceptionally clear and any wetness can be removed really quickly using the heated mirror function.

For me (at least) rear visibility using door mirrors has never been an issue, even in bad weather.

@a3_phil I've never had any visibility issues either, and I live down some of the worst, dirtiest roads in the **** end of nowhere in Northern Ireland. If that's not a test for rear visibility, I don't know what is.

In 13 months of owning my car, I've never once switched on the rear wiper. The only time it's been in operation is when I've had my front wipers on and have been reversing into a parking space and they come on automatically!

Ah, maybe I wasn't clear...

I've had no issues with the visibility from the door mirrors, but personally I wouldn't be comfortable without a rear wiper as the rear gets proper dirty for me.

The A3 8V forum is without a doubt the most hostile of any forum I've ever used. Maybe it's an Audi thing .

People wouldn't dare tell someone what to wear on their way to work. "Sir, do you mind removing that blue tie, I don't like it".
It's not entirely different to what goes on with this forum. Especially if someone is asking for advice. If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all :) everyone wins.

As I have said my concern is for all the other road users.

I do quite often think what some people wear to the office where I do my volunteering is not really appropriate, but if they and the organisation are happy then I would just keep my views to myself. But if there were wearing something that, for example, that was a safety factor for themselves or others in the office then I would probable say something.

I'm sorry if some forum members cannot cope with their actions being the subject of debate then they are looking in to the wrong forum. This forum gives a lot of very useful information but also allows it's members to debate anything to do with the 8V A3. If it was just an information providing forum it would all get rather boring. We have had some very interesting debates over the years and providing they don't get personal and criticise the individual then fine.

I've owned mine for 1.5 years now, experienced exactly the same! I have never to my knowledge actually actively turned the rear wiper on, it has only ever been used when invoked because the fronts are on and I've selected reverse gear as you mentioned!

I drove 152 miles up a motorway and 152 miles back the day after, encountered drizzle on the way up and heavy rain for an hour or so on the way back, even had a diversion over moorland A roads for a few miles and have never had a build up of so much crap I can't easily see through the rear window. Standing water can be removed very easily using the rear window heater. I clean my car very regularly so this will never be an issue!

@RyanCudlip well done mate, at first I thought "Why remove it?", but seeing it done I must agree it does look neat!

At the end of the day it's your car, you paid for it so do what you like to it ;) There's a Q5 around here in bright pink! Not to my taste, but if it's what the owner likes then it's up to them :)

What rear wiper? ;)

leaving aside any practical/legal issues you have to admit the back of the A1 looks good, de-badged and de-wipered, the way it was done.

It looks like a dodgem.

In my experience saloons dont need a rear wiper. Does any one fit them?

We used to have an ancient Ford Orion which had one - looked appalling.

Job done for now with a glass bung from Halfords. I have a flush, glass bung coming in a few days off eBay to give an even cleaner look!

Just my opinion but, whilst I have no issue with the wiper removal, that plate totally ruins the back of the car for me. Apart from being totally illegal, it just looks cheap and tacky IMO. No doubt I'll get flamed for that but it's my opinion and I'm entitled to it, just as are all the yay/nay rear wiper advocates :p

I removed my wiper and Audi badge looks good
I think I'm going to paint my valance next and tone down the Crome

Ah ok that does make a bit of difference as at least it's an NI plate in NI. Can't stand the use of NI plates on the mainland - they look so "wannabe" personalised plates.

Then I suggest you do a proper search of the A3 forums rather than take the lazy way and then no one will not how stupid your are being!!!

Note to self, when unnecessarily ripping the pi$$ out of someone, use correct grammar and spelling to avoid looking stupid yourself.
