Another day another problem...

I suppose it's all trial and error tbh Slepy, process of elimination

It's throwing up the MAF fault straight away once the engines started. A few times its thrown up multiple misfire 1,2 and three

I was finally allowed in my brothers scary mo fo, after countless babysittings and kebabs :)

Right guys, another little update to this mystery. I should have next week off work and have the best part of 4grand saved from working 7 days a week/12 hour days so I'm gonna be on the cars.

So. The noise. I took her out during the wet to get some food shopping and the noise completely went, but I only suspect to due rain because now it's dry out the noise has reappeared, this leads me to believe maybe it's the G/box bush maybe? Or some sort of play somewhere?

Anyone think it's the dog mount? Anyway I can check?

The noise it apparent coming from the top area

If I put my hand on any components, like the tensioner, or Inlet I can feel the knock, there's no specific area when I can put my head to point out where it is

But I had my cousin putting the car right at bitting point

Had the AUX belt off while at biting point and the same knocking still there

getting a bit confusing with two threads discussing the same thing.

So the noise remains with the aux belt off then...

you say the noise only happens at clutch bite? Could it be the flywheel?

I'm sorry, I'm just really trying to figure this, I wouldn't even mind paying a hefty bill, but no one seems to know what it is

Yeah I removed the belt started her up and put her at biting and exactly the same noise, baring in mine I just changed the AUX tensioner cause someone told me it was that

It does it at aggressive biting point if that makes sense, almost stalling sort of and also when I'm pulling away

When was the timing belt last changed? Could be a bearing or tensioner pulley, etc? With the engine in the service position a mechanic will be able to determine if there's play on the bearings.

The TB was changed at 111k and she's on 115k,

Just throw it out there, this couldn't be serious engine problems would it? The car drives, pulls and feel like it should, no juddering or hesitation, I pulled the plugs yesterday to see if oil was round the plugs, and checked the Leads and they was all okay

The video was taken when I was sitting at biting point, if I'm idle it doesn't really do it

Would a faulty MAF cause this? Maybe spark knock?

Yeah it does run better without the MAF plugged in, but the knocking is still apparent

Have the guys on the a3 8l forum had any suggestions?its being the same platform it could be something that has arisen before,

From the sound of it. I bet it's prevalent when driving around at cruise conditions. No load and high ish gear

Yeah, only 1st and 2nd tbh and when pulling away, but sometimes it's there and sometimes it isn't

It's intermittent, sometimes I reckon it's gone and then it just creaps up
