Hi all, not too long ago someone caused a dent on the driver side front wheel arch of my A5 and now I have gone to two different audi approved garages and the quotes are very different leaving me unsure of what is best. The expensive quote is circa £1300 and requires a new panel and blending the door panel paintwork into the new panel whereas the other quote is £500 for panel beating the dent out and paint.

The guy who gave me the expensive quote said it is better to get a new panel compared to beating out a aluminium body because it is not as good as doing it on a steel body due to it being more fragile and the results of getting the line on the curve may not be 100%.

Would anyone know if the guy giving the expensive quote is just trying to make money out of the job and quoting for unnecessary things (need for a new panel and hence door blending etc). I have uploaded some pictures to give you an idea of the damage.

Hi.

What age is the car and where are you located?

I recently had a front end respray (bumper, bonnet and wings) stine chips to the bonnet and 2 small cracks on the bumper repaired. Both audi approved bodyshops i took it tot insisted that the bumper needed replaced at an additional cost of £450 whereas a local guy with a very good reputation has done a magnificent job without replacing the bumper.

Its six years old now and am located in Croydon, London.

Imagine better with a new panel as aluminium is not as good to work on. Blending into the adjacent panels is standard practice too.

Re which one to use, that depends on reputation and I would ask around for that on somewhere like the A3 or TT forums (as usually busier).

I know a great place but bit a trek up to Stafford:racer:!

I was in exactly the same position a few years ago with my all-aluminium A8. A miniscule car park dent right on the flange line of the wheel arch.

Took it into a highly-recommendable Audi Approved repair centre (Pentagon, Hatfield)

Audi Approved Repair method - £1200 (including removing rear window!).
"...but I'm paying myself repair method" - £400

Repair perfect and lasted the life of the car.
