Jeff's S4

...the interlock that prevents the handbrake disengaging unless I'm wearing a seatbelt. It's such a chore when all you want to do is move the car on the drive.

You can manually disengage it if you have your foot on the brake, if that helps.

Phone : I just have a curly charger cable that comes out of the glovebox, and my phone tends to sit in cupholder. Or just in my pocket, assuming the battery isn't flat.

Also, for the annoying beeping, it will stop if you press the under stalk DIS button (the one you use for a reset).
Not a full solution, but until you code it out it may save your sanity a bit :)

Will give it a go, Stu.

This is a top tip that I use all the time.

Avatar will have to wait until I have decent pics.
@jdp1962 - You could always use this scary pic until you get some of the S4 lol

Okay, so having had an S4 in my life for a little over 24 hours, time for an essay on the story so far. Forgive me if this ends up a bit disjointed. I'm using an iPad because it's just too hot to have the computer on in a room that is currently facing the sun full on. So, where to start?

I arrived at Bexley Audi a few minutes early to be greeted by a kind soul who offered to valet park my A4 for the last time. We then had a hour's worth of very boring but very necessary admin before I was taken to the "departure lounge". During that hour, I was given a free ashtray to finish off the cupholder, a bottle of champagne, a tin of sweets, two AMI cables, oh and an "S" key fob at a discount. Clutching my goody bag, finally I got the car. The sales lady lamented that it was dirty (even a dead fly on the roof) but she knew I wanted it that way. After a few minutes of showing around the controls, she bid me goodbye with a hug, and off I went, half a mile straight home to take the dog for a walk.

During a blistering hot afternoon, I did little more than put stuff in it. My attempts to install @t8ups' lighting upgrades didn't go well. I managed to break one of the ice white fogs and snap a wire connection off the boot LED. Also, some of the door LEDs refused to light up, however much I jiggled the connections. These things will be fixed next Tuesday when @NHN visits to fit my Blackvue camera.

Mrs JDP and I went for a short drive down the A2 to Bluewater, where we had dinner and discussed the car. She thought it was beautiful, especially the black/silver leather combo that she had chosen. She's also loving the electric adjusters on her seat. I was a bit disappointed at the DAB losing signal and going silent quite a lot. This is generally a very strong signal area, so not sure why that's happening. Hooking up my phone is a bit of a chore, whichever method I use; via AMI means leaning over to the glovebox and via the 12V socket in the console means moving and then resetting the armrest position. Neither is ideal, but no doubt I'll adapt.

Today we had plans to go out for the day, taking the dog with us too, but it has been prohibitively hot. Right now, as I write this, it's 36 degrees. Plus, I overdid the beer last night. So in the end, all we did was drive to Bluewater again. Boring, huh?

All this means I haven't really had a chance to wring it out yet, but it's quite obviously a peach to drive. The engine is exquisitely smooth as well as brutally powerful, and the exhaust rasp on acceleration certainly gets Mrs JDP's seal of approval. Presently, I've got ADS set to individual, and have selected all dynamic options except for engine/gearbox, which is on auto. But even if all I'm doing is plodding down the A2, it's just a sumptuous place to be.

This afternoon, I hooked up the Carista app, cleared all the stored faults from yesterday's lighting mishaps, then did a bit of tweaking. I enabled the remote lock beep, and disabled the seatbelt warning. Two other things I'd like to do but don't think I can is disable the driver's door open bleep and the interlock that prevents the handbrake disengaging unless I'm wearing a seatbelt. It's such a chore when all you want to do is move the car on the drive.

Tomorrow, the windows get tinted, and on Friday, it's the big detail.
Interesting thoughts Jeff

I have similar issues with my DAB too ...
He's due to arrive around 7am, and reckons there's about seven hours' work to do.
7 hours? Thats just a wash ! lol

Oh & forgot to mention Jeff ...

Welcome to the rare #s4saloon club ;) lol

what about us early 40's guys??

Must say I'm loving the Tornado Grey...but I kinda have a thing bout grey cars

Just back from a short burst round the countryside to the south and east of Dartford. I have to say, the adaptive xenons and main beam assist are stunning. Well worth the extra few quid over "standard" xenons.

+1 on the DAB. Bit of a disappointment really but I was already aware that it could be a problem from reports that I had read. Last time I had problems I switched to FM which worked but with interference. That suggests its an antenna problem?

Just got back from having Dark Smoke (80%) tints fitted. I won't be posting any pics today, as the fluid adhesive is still curing. Next pics will now be after it's been detailed tomorrow.

No FM option for Planet Rock, sadly.

I had enough of DAB today & switched over to 'normal' FM. Hey presto, complete interference free sound!
Would have been going back to the supplying Dealer for a moan if I had paid for DAB

I'm confused. I'm pretty sure I live in the same area as @Dippy but I don't have any DAB issues. Is there a different antenna for higher spec systems? I only have the base S4 radio and no MMI.

It's quite possible that there are different antennas depending on configuration. Maybe I'll look into it sometime.
I don't have lots of DAB signal loss, it's only happened a couple of times in the last 12 weeks. Next time it happens I'll note exactly where I am.
Generally I prefer to listen to my JB anyway. I only have to switch to radio when my kids are in the car and they moan too much about my taste in music.

Tinted, and detailed. Better pics to follow just as soon as I get an opportunity for a proper shoot "off-site".

The lighter part of the rotors really goes well with the Tornado :salute:

I think the antenna are the same (DAB and FM are in the rear screen), but I am fairly sure the RF receiver modules for the MMI and non MMI systems are different and that could be where the problem/difference is.

Will be interested to hear how Jeff gets on with his tints too, as if the film on the rear screen has any metal content to it, it may well affect the antenna in a negative way (sorry fella !).

@jdp1962 - S4 looking fab Jeff!
The tints really suit the lighter coloured cars IMHO. Don't think I would get a away with it on mine tho' ... :(
Why Audi make it an option/standard on them there Avant's and not on the saloons is beyond me. Strange if you ask me

Now you've got to keep it like that ;)
Just out of interest, what car shampoo did the Detailer recommend you to use?

Happy for me to stick with Meguiars Gold Class.

@StuBill - I have non-MMI & @jdp1962 has MMI and we are both experiencing, shall we say, issues with our DAB systems. Our old MINI had DAB and had no probs with it in all the same area's I use the S4 in.
I find it mildly irritating, but not that bothered TBH. It will get mentioned to the Dealer when I next pay of visit mind :)

Hmmmm that is very odd. I've driven from here in darkest West Berkshire to Lancashire without having any DAB issues. Maybe it's the extra injectors on the new engine to blame. :)

I've had no end of dab issues - cuts out constantly....I was putting it down to location at first but my colleague's system in his Beemer seems far more reliable..
