Anyone attempted to remove the rear bumper on an S4 Avant?

Need to replace a rear parking sensor and can't reach from under without removing bumper :(

I know I have to remove the rear trim and have started that, struggling to get the side panels out. Do the rear seats have to be removed?

Also, I'm guessing the Bose hardware needs to be removed?

Hell of a lot of work for bumper removal!

You won't need to remove the rear seats, you just need to fold them down. Everything else in the boot will have to come out, both side panels and the floor pieces too. The side panels have clips just under the windows which need a very strong tug to get them out.

In my search for info I found this YouTube video.

I've not attempted it yet though!!

Excellent, will try again Tuesday evening. So frustrating to have to remove the whole bumper just for one reverse sensor :-(

I got the side panels out as far as the top clips as it felt like I was going to break something. It seems like the side panels are hooked in right down by the seat hinges. Will take another look.

Have you bought the sensor then??
I really should get a and sort mine, I'm just concerned about breaking something in the process!!
Also I'm not sure if I need 1 or 2 sensors, don't fancy going to all the effort only to find I have to do it all again!

It is annoying, I can just about touch the sensor from underneath but no chance of removing it and getting another in!

So frustrating. Haven't bought sensor yet, want to remove to get part number before buying.

But like you say, I'm almost tempted to buy four to replace due to hassle but £££ probably permits otherwise.

I did it!!

Stupid/brave/crazy delete as appropriate.

****** hard work. The side trim panels are ****** hard to remove. Was so scared they were going to break.

Got the offending parking sensor out. Time to order a replacement.

Whilst I had the trim out, my boot is releasing properly, might be worth changing the release unit.

If you had a knackered sensor why didn't you just drill a hole in the old sensor and pull it out with a screwdriver

I didn't know how it was clipped in behind!

Nice one,
It'd be handy to see how they fit as I've no idea and obviously can't see if the bumper is on.

Did you get a price from Audi for a new sensor?
There was a seller on eBay a while ago selling new OEM sensors but can't find them now.

I'm still stuck with not knowing if I need 2 or 1 and when they'll need painting it'll be a long job and I guess you don't want to be pulling the bumper on and off a couple of times.

Did you manage it on your own or do you need 2 pairs of hands to get the bumper off? I take it it was harder than that video made out then!!!

Yeah, £106 each new from Audi.

The one I bought above is OEM, not used, but opened.

Yeah harder than the video made out, the hardest bit was un-clipping the sides of the bumper away without marking the bodywork. I did it alone, wasn't and easy balancing act. Just be aware there's 5 screws per side.

Just bringing this one up again...
I've bought 1 replacement sensor as only 1 seems to not be making the clicking sound (so fingers crossed)
You say the hardest bit is unclipping the sides of the bumper.. that's the bit I'm dreading to be honest.
Does this just pull out? or do you need to use something to leaver it out?

The sensor that is gone on mine is the drivers side corner one, I'm wondering if I undo all the gubbins that side I'd be able to pull the bumper forward & release & refit the new sensor without getting the entire bumper off.. that sound doable or daft?

I also need to paint the sensor, but I'm going to try it first incase it doesn't fix it/need 2 & get them painted at the same time. (at the expense of having to remove the bumper twice!!)
