Anyone got opinions on this? I've always he company cars until recently and not been able to get away with the extra expense. Now I have my own diesel which does 300 miles a week commuting to / from work, is it worth using the expensive stuff?

I just use regular, but always stick with shell. I did use vpower for a while but never found any benefits in power or MPG.

I tend to fill up at the start of the month and a tank does me. So I use ultimate or vpower, whichever station I'm passing. It's only really £8-10 extra on a full tank

I think I've noticed a difference but could just be placebo effect

I'm currently trying out on my A4 B8 3.0TDi. After a few tanks, I am getting slightmy more miles - I would say 15-25 per tank but in reality it costs more to fill.

Only benefit I can see is the extra detergents but without ripping the engine apart to look it could all be a load of baloney! I'm sure She'll have lots of pictures of super shiny engines :)

I used Shell V-Power nitro+ in the 350Z and my MPG improved from 24 - 26. The car ran rough on regular unleaded. Don't know if that crosses over to diesel though so sorry if my post is completely irrelevant.

I think the 350Z was designed to run on higher octane petrol like V-Power,that is why your 350Z run's better. Diesel engine are not based on octane so you cannot compare the two fuels.

There have been many tests done some more scientific than others with performance fuels both petrol and diesel. They do give an increase in performance and I always use shell V power when I know I am going to need a bit more go. My car does seem to run better when on V-power but for normal driving I am just as happy putting in Tesco diesel which I normally get 10-12p a litre off with the fuelsave points.
Performance Diesel such as V-power has a higher Cetane content which is what gives it more go, also they are partially made using a completely different process to normal diesel, GTL (Gas To Liquid) diesel makes up a proportion of V-power fuel.

As to whether it's worth the extra I am not sure from a financial point of view. from a performance point it does work.

I was using Shell V-Power and then switched to Tesco diesel because of the 10c off every litre promotion...to be honest I cannot tell the difference!
