I set out a couple of months ago looking in to headlight upgrades and retrofits as the lens on one of my original halogen units has started to cloud up from the inside, providing me with an ideal chance to look in to an upgraded set.

I had initially looked in to an OEM Bi-Xenon setup, but after having a couple of ebay headaches and some more thinking, I got in touch with Trups (@t8ups) from the forum with a view to getting him on the case.

We discussed a few options and @t8ups input has been invaluable throughout the process..... his expertise and knowledge on this matter are second to none.

In the end, the setup which we decided to go for consists of the following:
- Morimoto Mini D2S 3.0
- D2S Bulbs
- 55w Ballasts
- Iris Shrouds
- LED Indicator bulbs
- LED Side lights
- Uprated halogen full beams.

In addition to the xenon conversion, Trups would remove the amber indicator caps from the light units and also set about painting the inner trim of the units in a satin black.

So the work commenced and the halogen units were stripped down in to their component parts. The internal trims were prepped and painted in satin black:

And then the halogen unit made way for the projector shroud:

Trups also gave the units a general refurb, bringing the lenses back to their very best.
So, the buildup could begin and the lights started to take shape.

Eventually, after many hours of work on Trups part - we finally got to this finished product..... with the ballast units stored neatly under the headlight unit which will keep things looking nice and tidy when they finally go in to the car.

End product is something which is both very aesthetically pleasing, and also provides incredible performance. I really cannot wait to get these in to the car which should hopefully happen in the next week or so...... more pics to follow when i've got them in and working!

Cannot thank @t8ups enough for his help throughout this - his communication has been first class from the word go and he's been as helpful as any person ever could be. I really cannot recommend him highly enough given the work he's put in to these.

Look great Erik, been thinking about these myself lately but can't make my mind up which route to go.

Looking forward to see them fitted.

Believe better to go this route as it has much better light output.

Ballast wise I would personally go OEM if possible as it keeps things OEM too.

Ive got B6 shape and have mini h1 projectors fitted and boy did it make a difference as the light output is greater than if I put my high beams on.

Cheers mate :) Will probably be another week or so at least before I can get them fitted, but I've got CumbriaVAG coming up so they'll be in in time for that.

Yeah the output on these should be pretty impressive I think!

I have had a pair of these from trups on my previous car and they were absolutely brilliant. Recommend these completely!

Ajax if you do not bother to go for OEM bi-xenon this is the best option ! Only thing which make me sad when i use MOrimoto - when you flash (full beam) is switching bi-xenon + halogen OEm full beam ... When you stay in front of the car is sound like Bmw with 4 headlights :)
The second difference is OEm start for 3 seconds and they are ready ruther these xenons need like 10 seconds to be ready but is not that important !
Your headlights look bob on mate

Finally got these on to the car at the tail end of last week - not had a minute to myself to get some proper output shots, but heres a couple of how they look on the car.

Apologies, not the best shots! Will try and get some more with the actual light output etc when I get a chance.

The best thing about Trups's lighting upgrades-----------------they work and work well.
Others are a cheaper on Ebay but you never get what you expected and the bulbs often fail. Luckily my upgrade was just bulbs, all white and bright. Trups did tell me the Morimoto bulbs do need a running in period as they seem a bit too blue at first but whiten up after 50 hours use, strange I know.

Some output shots of my new headlights - the difference really is night and day (pardon the pun!!)

What side lights you put ? Are they error free 100% ?

I've just used the cree sidelights that I had in my old halogen units - @t8ups supplied me with these over two years ago now and they are still going strong - wouldn't really consider anything else to be honest, they are streets ahead of anything else I've seen.

And yes, they are 100% error free :)

Old pic but same bulbs - this is sidelights only:

If using a more expensive ballast you can avoid the issue of the 10 second wait, if you wanted the wiring to have just the Xenons working I can also sort that for you also.

Anything is possible.

You need to come over and let me upgrade your OEM ones, PM me, I have something coming in this month that you will like :D

Erik.

Nice working with you on this project, glad you went with a stage 2 upgrade which for other members are the Morimoto mini D2S 3.0 using the Morimoto 6000k D2S bulbs with the Morimoto D2S 55w ballast, This upgrade was nearly double the cost of going with the Mini H1 but it really does show and the step up to this is awesome, after seen Eriks im now planning my Next retro in my own car to these projectors as if you look in the picture in the car park how wide the beam is.

If anyone wants Morimoto products I am a Authorized re seller and have most items in stock and ready to go.

Thanks
Trups

It works for me. Go onto to main forum page and scroll down near the bottom, you're looking for 'Site Sponsors' in which you'll see EM tuning pages.

Admittedly, I have factory Xenons and think they're great - and your conversion looks as good for the the light output and pattern.
Have to say the car looks ****** fantastic too, proving details here and there add up overall.
Great work!

If side by side this setup will out perform yours :)

I can improve your oem xenons also if you wanted.

Working on some this week.

I think the glass on mine first need replacing after 175K miles of stones being thrown at them!

Cheers, buddy - but I am happy with the output in all honesty.
I could do with new lenses - can you please PM me your price. ;-)
