Today I decided to set about restoring the headlights on my 2002 S6. Although the car over all is in very good condition the headlights had seen better days. I thought I would try help people out by posting how i did it.

First here is couple of pictures just so you can see the extent of the surface damage.

So first I set about getting the bulk of the damage sorted with P600 wet and dry, I mixed some washing up liquid in with the water to make it all a bit more slippy.

Once I was happy the light was feeling smooth and I could see the tiny cracks had disappeared I went over them with P1500

As you can see below after just wet sanding they are looking a whole lot better

Next up I began to buff the lights, I did the first pass with a coarse compound and pad.

This is how they looked after the first buff.

I then buffed them again with a very fine compound and pad, giving me my end result.

As you can see the result was very good and quite easy to do, im a novice with a buffer.

The important thing to remember is not to let the lenses heat up whilst sanding or buffing.

If any one has any question about the process i used please ask away.

Wow, great job, looks like new! When i lived abroad i had an old Integra with similar headlight damage, i didn't know it was this easy to fix, great guide.

I have a few scratches I need to get rid off mine.
Very helpful guide, thank you.

My headlights look like they've got permanent water marks on or in them - may look into this now!

I know - I only really notice it when the car is super clean too...

If you do decide to split them, some alcohol solution should work to get rid of the water marks.
