Hi recently sold my mk6 golf R and bought myself a sportback black edition but new to all this and don't know where to start with it, got coilovers to go on it, but looking for wheels, the wheels I fancy are 8.5x19 et25, and would be planning on lowering it as much as possible for daily use, would these be too much of a job to fit and has anyone any ideas on which et and width I should be looking for, pics and advice appreciated

Someone no doubt will be along shortly with more advice,as I don't go in for much lowering, but if you're looking at 245 section tyres, you can expect some problems with rubbing.

Other than that(as I do have 245x40x18s on my car),most issues can be sorted by removing a small screw at the top of the rear wheelarch liner.

Getting sufficient camber to accommodate wider tyres is a problem on our cars,as the stock suspension doesn't allow much front camber, although the rears are easy to adjust.

shortly here...

18's for go and 19's for show! I will be flamed for stating it LOL

et 25 is rub a dub dub unless you like the Q look. 235 40 18 easiest

Will be purely for looks purposes only to be honest, and wheels I'm looking at have a rim so scared incase I was to choose 18's that they would look too small so would prefer 19's, what would be a safe et to run with suitable lowering, et35?

Perfect fitment for zero rubbing - 18x8 ET45 or 19x8 ET45 - 225/40/18 or 225/35/19

Anything wider/lower ET I don't have experience of...to be fair 18x8.5 ET45 225/40/18 or 19x8.5 ET45 with 225/35/19 should work too

25 is seriously pushing it I think unless you flare your arches, 35 I think is the absolute safe limit but you'll still rub unless you alter the camber/toe, and you probably wouldn't be able to carry passengers

I recently tried some oz superleggera wheels on my car that came off my dads merc, they were 8.5Jx19 et32 on the front and 10Jx19 et32 on the back! Hahaha

So yeah even the fronts had far too much poke more than I expected, im currently running 8.5x18 et40 and id say that's pretty good fitment, i was trying the 19's on to check for brake clearence as im looking to get a big brake kit

Picture of my 18x8.5 et40 as an example with 225 tyres

I think you would struggle anything with less offset without rubbing issues especially when lowered

Welcome to the forum!

ET25 is insane. No other way to say it really. Especially when you're talking about a daily driver. Some perfect advice has been given above. If you are smart you will listen to it.

I would also recommend doing some searches of the forum etc, to build up your knowledge and understanding so you can make better choices. I do it every day when there is something I don't know and find the forum invaluable with so many helpful members.

Wow how off was i, what an error that could have been as I was set on et25 19x8.5 haha! Seen a set of keskin kt4 alloys I quite fancy but searched on here and couldn't find anyone that was running them, hopefully they are as nice as they are on rimstyle'a website and not a cheap looking rim when they arrive, oh and a suitable fitment. Thanks guys

What kind of sportback black edition do you have anyway? s3?

Hi just the a3 2.0tdi 170, couldn't be bothered with the running costs of the s3 as the golf was a nightmare to run, never mind running the both cars and a baby on the way with my other half being a carer she used it to commute to work and back etc so diesel made sense
