Hi guys, im looking for a bit of advice on my car please.

A few months ago now, my EML (engine management ) decided to make an appearance. Nothing seemed obviously wrong but after a hook up to diag in local garage, they had a scan through and cleared some fault codes from the air mass flow metre and all was good.

A few weeks ago the eml came on again after i filled up. Again nothing seemed obviously wrong. After i booted it up the road the eml turned off and again all was well.

However today, after a round trip of around 120 mile, i got back home, left the car running for 5 minutes and when i went back to it, i noticed thaf the eml was on again. I decided to give the car a bit of stick to see if thag worked again but nothing has changed so far.

It might be worth mentioning that i had a terraclean done on it last december i think it was.

Could it be a faulty air flow mass sensor? Or something more serious and expensive?

My car is a 2006 a6 3.0tdi auto

Any advice appreciated and thanks for reading.

Without know the codes it's difficult to say, next time see if you can get a printout from the garage, before they clear the faults. Or get someone local to you to scan the car.

Maybe it is the swirl flap motor fault common to the older 2.7 and 3.0 V6's. I had this on my 2.7 and ended up replacing both inlet manifolds.
As has been said though you really need the code to find out the exact issue.

Thanks guys. Will try and get it plugged in with the results on here asap.

Hi all,

quick update on this. I havent managed to get my car plugged in yet due to working all hours, but on monday pm the eml went off. it remained off until this morning when it reared its ugly head again. the outside temperature was slightly lower than it has been the last few days. not sure if that could cause it to happen?

unfortunately wont manage to get diag done until at least next wednesday thursday.

If theres anyone around the Scarborough area that could help out that would be great.

Quick update. Stil no diag :-/ however this morning the eml has gone off.

I have another thread atm in regards to my driver window not returning up when being pressed. All of that is working now the eml has turned off. Very confused.

Hi guys. I had a mate use his fault reader today on my car. It came out with this P2011 Intake manifold runner control circuit/ open bank 2. Does this mean anything to anyone?

Put this in google p2011 Audi, not a cheap fix unfortunately.

If it is the swirly flap things - forgive my naivety - is it something thats going to go wrong fast?

I think i may have found the issue or one cause of the issue, in relation to the fault p2011.

Ive got a short video but unsure on how to upload from my phone.

On the drivers side inlet manifold, the little rod thing that opens up when revving, the rod is rattling whilst idling. The passenger side seems fine. From a quick bit of googling last night, ive seen that you simply cannot change just the rod and it has to be the whole manifold piece.

If anyone can shed any light on this?

So ive been on the phone to AA. They sent a guy out to take a look and he got the same problem with the inlet manifold fault code p2011. I have AA's Breakdown Repair cover so they recommended taking it to Halfords which is a stones throw away from me. Ive done that but they wont get round to diagnosing it until Wednesday 3rd June. Ive decided to leave the car with them, in their care, making the best of a bad situation with threats to damage my car from the ever wonderful local woppers. I shall get back to you all when i hear something and hopefully the repair will be covered in the policy and under the £500 threshold.

Hi all,
Thought id post a quick update on this situation even though there hasnt really been any progression.

I initially took it to a garage who had it for a few days and then rang back stating that the job was too big for them. excellent. i then took it to another garage on Tuesday evening for them to look at it today. They have had a look at the car and have been given a different code of P1018, which is different to the initial one from AA of P2011 but i believe it to of the same problem area. What im a little bit miffed about is that both of these garages dont have any proper diagnostic equipment, despite both being AA recomended. The second garage have spoken with Audi regarding the problem and they have said that depending on my engine model/number, then i may be able to get away with replacing just a few components on the manifold unit, and not the whole piece itself.

I am looking for some advice, after scouring through contless posts on the same issue on google, i have seen some people say that they have replaced the solenoid and that has solved the issue, some saying that they have taken the whole manifold off and cleaned it and that has also solved the issue, where some saying that they have had to replace the whole unit.

Is there a definitive way of knowing what it is i exactly need?

I am quite happy to take it to audi but knowing that customer satisfaction is not always at the forefront of them, i do not want to be paying out for something that i do not need when it could have been resolved for a lot cheaper if that makes sense?

Like i have mentioned previously, I have AA breakdown cover up to the value of £500 with an excess for a claim of £35. (if the repair is applicable to this, which i believe it is).

Sorry for the rather long post but i do hope someone can please shed some light on this situation, and maybe offer some advice in where to go next with it.

Many thanks.

theres a tie rod assembly you can buy online to replace the one thats possibly worn, a fairly cheap repair.
Understandably the light is an annoyance, but from what ive read when the flaps fail they fail in the open position and wont affect running of the car and wont do any damage, just standard german over engineering.
So the only time the EML light will be an issue is for MOT or roadside inspection heaven forbid

@NotNormal
Sorry for late reply mate, really good of you to offer but i think youre a little far away but thanks anyway!

@Tank. Thanks buddy, ive seen the replacement bits on ebay for around £30 so i will give that a go and hopefully that will do it.

Well it's up to you, it's not that far really, my friend drives to and from Scarborough daily for work.
I can do it this Saturday afternoon if that's any use to you.

It's your call
