Hi All,

I just got my first oil indicator warning appear (change oil within 30 days). I called Bristol Audi who quoted me £185, seems excessive! So I will shop around. Has anybody else had much cheaper from thier dealer? I will also look around at smaller garages I think.

Also, I am going to Manchester on Friday (and back again on Sunday). From Bristol. Will I be ok on this trip if I cannot fit my car in anywhere to have it done? What exacly triggers the warning?

I have done just over 8000 miles (about 8200 I think).

@JohnnyM100 you beat me too it.

It seems Audi have hiked the prices compared to my S3 8p as I was never charged this much!!

Mine was in last week. £179.

Oil and filter change.
Tyre pressure check.
Electronics check.
Wash and Hoover.

Would of told them not to bother with the wash if I knew they were going to do it. Felt sick knowing they had been rubbing a sponge all over it

Mines was £200 odd for the oil change about 2 weeks ago.
The free "Wash" was decent but wheels were a bit dusty still.

What did they "wash" it with though ? :whistle2:

Must have been a standard soap it wasn't waxed or polished. Although they did use tyre slick.
Wasn't as thorough as the local £5 car wash i normally use.

Got mine book in crewe in 2 weeks £159 and there giving me a free courtesy car for a few hours

After watching WatchDog about the oil consumption - that Audi won't cover you if you take the car elsewhere i'd rather cough up and go Audi, plus I feel there are more arguments to be won with them as they want to keep you happy, so if you're not happy with something/you car gets damaged I feel a little safer leaving my car with them.

Oh, and every time my car goes in for absolutely anything, I tell them not to wash or vac it. If they swirl the paint or damage it i'll get them to pay for it! I take a lot of care...

8,000 miles seems very early, but I suppose that must be on a different service plan to my car. My first Inspection Service/oil change was at 19,000 miles. I was charged £360 at Essex Audi. I suppose that's it until I hit around 32,000, according to what the car is telling me as to when the next service/oil change is due.

On the point of them washing the car. That always makes me laugh as my car usually comes back from Audi dirtier than it went in, despite the little card they hang from the rear view mirror to tell you it's been cleaned. Oh and some pillock stuck an Audi dealer sticker on my rear window - which I duly ripped off and then complained. If they want me to advertise their dealership, they can pay me! I had VW do that with the R32 I had many years ago. Every time I took it in they tried to label my car.

My A3 has just been to my dealers for it's first long-life service at 18,150 miles. The total cost of the service was £276.68. The also washed and cleaned the interior and made a very good job of it. Quite happy with the service provided.

How come some are serviced at 8000 and some at 19000? Can you decide when it needs it?

Yes you can. Audi recommend that if your car does less that 10,000 miles a year it should be set to fixed term servicing. If your car does over 10,000 miles a year Audi recommend you opt for Long-life servicing where the car decides when it needs servicing. As I currently do around 14,000 miles a year mine is set for Long-life servicing and came up a requiring a service at 18,000 miles. This is about the same as most of my other A3s.

My wife's A1 is set for fixed term servicing as she only does around 5,000 miles a year so her car will be serviced at 10,000 miles or two years which ever comes first.

Ok thanks. I do around 12k a year so am I better opting for the long life service? Also how do I get this done? Do they set it when it's serviced at 12k meaning that it won't be due then for another 18k?

You may find you car is already set for Long-life service. Has your DIS come up with a message saying your car needs servicing? When it does this can depend a lot on the type of driving you do. A lot of shorter journeys will mean that it will come up earlier than if you do longer journeys.

Yeah it came up with this at 9k saying it needs a service. So if I take it will they reset it to long life?

All cars are set to long life from the factory unless you specifically request otherwise. I had mine put on fixed services as the services tend to be a bit cheaper and I never seemed to get more than 10k out of a long life interval with my previous 8P.

Has anyone has issue with leases if serviced at an Indi?

Planning on handing the car back at end of lease if not before.

I'm on long life, oil change @ 18k/2yrs, inspection service @19k/2yrs.

Had the car 16 months but done 18k.

My local indi has quoted £160 for a major service including the pollen filter which would be due 40k/2yrs.

Local Audi quoting £341 for the same thing, ringing around a few audi's cheapest I got was £313 for the interim, 20 odd miles away.

The indi sounded more educated on what was required and made me feel more confident on the phone, also said would be no issue not cleaning my car which reading other posts Audi find difficult to follow.

Just conscious of messing up lease....
