So my local had a few jobs to do today and managed to disconnect the ecu, with the battery still connected.
It all seemed alright until I got home.
The car hesitates to start and sometimes doesn't at all until I give it some gass, and when I come off the gass it's a real hit, like my revs can't wait to drop down, I'm not %100 of the loud turbo spool was there before but it's certainly got my attention now
Does anyone know why it's doing this? I've got someone to view it tomorrow!

Does the ECU even get power unless the ignition is on?

Sounds more like a vac leak to me.

Even when the ECU was disconnected the ignition was on to open/close the windows

Same thing aragorn man, the revs sort of bounce and start up doesn't happen without a bit of gass

what engine?

check for codes

Its unlikely to be caused by the guy unplugging your ECU. Perhaps a vacuum leak or similar?

I'm gonna check for codes tomorrow, it was only the ECU disconnected, although I did notice that the arrow on my MAF is pointing opposite to my K&N? So the mesh stuff is after the actual sensor

The arrow on the MAF should point in the direction of the air flow thru it, ie it should point away from the filter, towards the engine.

I'm not sure, I'll have a proper look tomorrow, I'm on a disconnecting the battery for an hour or so to do a reset and see if it heals

When I come off the gass the revs drop real low and then climb to idle, that indicate a leak?

Alright I'll have a root round tomorrow, any clue where common leaks are?

I just had the TB off and it's clean, really clean, in fact it looks new, I do remember doing this once I first brought it though tbf, and doing an adapt

Was speaking to my local today and asked if he had any clue why the audi's hard to start, so he cracked it and just about starting and almost stalling, he's saying ICM?
How does he know off he bat?

Nah no yet Dan, the B5's locked up in one of my garages until I can get fix my Golf to sell on

I will do mate, yeah the pulley, head, mount, gearbox noise that no one can figure out, I still haven't even had a chance to get a new MAF cause I'm working days and nights

This is at biting point, idle and it isn't there.

I've had to run up without the AUX belt and the noise isn't there

yikes that sounds rough.

So the noise goes away completely with the Aux belt removed?

I guess you just need to check each component on that belt and see if any of them feel out of the ordinary. make sure they spin smoothly etc. Have you checked the main crank pulley bolts are tight?

Nah I removed the AUX belt and the noise was still there at biting point. Putting the thing back on though was another story lol, I'm trying to feel every component for vibration or anything

I've only had the top cover off, I think the cover goes all the way down to the bottom pully

Took it to my local today and none of the "experienced" technicians could figure it,'I even said Money isn't an issue I just want it sorted
