Prawn and BigAls A3 Track Car

guess you are hoping for a win and a PB!! lol

PB is what I'm after mainly Daz :) although with no performance changes to the car since last year it'll be Interesting to see what difference the Khumo road tyres make :)

I'll be taking a set of 48's with me, and if things aren't looking great by lunchtime I'll throw the 48's on for the afternoon :)

Would love to get up to Curby again some time soon, but not too sure when the next opportunity will be. Fingers crossed for a session at some point in the next 6 months I guess!

i think he means the next one other than this monday
he is fully aware of the one on monday as he will be winning it

At least someone is confident  haha.

I'm just looking forward to getting back on some sort of track again!

There are some very quick cars going on Monday, some in the road legal class, some not, so I've got no expectations, and it's a non competitive event anyway.

it'll be really interesting to compare times for mine on road tyres vs a few proper race cars on full race rubber. I'm expecting them to be faster of course, but by how much will be cool to see.

There's also a Radical SR8 going, which is going to be amazing to see in the flesh!

It'll be cool to see the car on track with the new aero stuff, not that it'll be doing anything at Curby.

Time has beaten me currently, and the wing isn't yet on. I'm at a wedding on Saturday, then home again Sunday afternoon, so Sunday night will be manic packing, wing fitting, fuelling up, and getting ready for the off!

lets see how non competitive it is on the day eh prawn ;)

He will want to win that tiny trophy again let's face it.

Car is all packed, forms filled in, and I found the time to make some orange numbers, as I really don't like the paint pen numbers they draw on otherwise :racer:

Lets go!

Great to see you today and thanks for the lend of the tools to fix my small issue. I knew you had it in the bag, the rear wing made all the difference. You need to have a wall dedicated to the trophy collection in that garage / workshop when it gets built.

Karl.

Surely he can keep those trophies on the new shelf he's installed on the rear of his car.

Well, I've finally done something this year

Was feeling pretty rusty having not been near a track since October, but yesterday was great :)

Will write more later, but to summarise, it was good. Car was good. company and atmosphere was excellent.
Not as quick as last year, but nobody was. Much fun was had.

Well done on fastest time dude!
Cars looking awesome! Wing looks spot on and once the rear diffuser is done it will look the proper dogs dangles!

its odd
the car in the flesh looks amazing
but the spoiler looks sooo much smaller???

it looks great in pics to but in flesh just awesome

I am going to make the effort to get to the next one... this type of event really appeals as I have no real interest in actual tracking the car and drag strip stuff just breaks things...

Assuming I can learn to drive the thing properly by then my new goal is to get a decent time whilst listening to drum n bass on the stereo shouting POWWWWAAARRRRR!!! as I accelerate out the bends...

:D

I have a few videos, but I'm not very happy with them  they look messy.

I had an absolutely awesome day. I loved chatting to everyone, it's been a long winter for me since Dony back in October!

The car was largely problem free all day, aside from one small braking issue which will be easily solved.

I never REALLY quite gelled with it on Monday though. Times were OK, still just nipped inside the 27s bracket, but a full 0.6s off a PB.

I was experimenting with a few different sets of tyres, my Khumo KU36s, and the more typical list 1B A048's in LTS medium/hard compound.

A schoolboy error saw me run 90% of the day on what I'm affectionately calling 'Dad spec' D'oh

I tend to run the car fairly twitchy, and like the rear end to be very mobile. We had softened the rear end at Dony for Dad to make Craners a bit safer back in October, and then TOTALLY forgot to change it back ever since! What a plonker.

It does however explain why I was having issues getting the back end to unstick at all, in turn giving me more understeer than I'm used to.

First up a morning run on the Khumo ku36 road tyres:

Then an afternoon run, this time on yoko A048's, yet strangely, slower than the road tyres! I don't feel I got the best out of these, be that down to setup or conditions, they just wern't quite working as I'd hoped. Turn in felt better, but the car still wasn't changing direction how I'd like.

I think a bit more experimentation with tyre pressures is needed, as the softer and taller sidewall Khumos didn't like being dropped below 28psi hot, where the yokos seemed to get better and better as I dropped them down.

I think if I'd realised the damping issue in the morning I'd have stayed on the khumos and improved further, but it's all a learning curve.

I'm really looking forward to September already :)

Over all - I'm dead impressed with the khumos for what I wanted them for. I wouldn't say they're a track tyre, and I'd probably not use them for a trackday, as they're too soft being road focused, but for what I wanted, really decent road grip, comfort, wet performance, and the odd Curborough type short blast, I think they're absolutely perfect. Will definitely be getting more when these wear out.

The videos look like it's a karting track. Wouldn't fancy a car with heavy steering after a few runs around that. Well done on keeping your title.

it defo takes some concentration ill say that
some people make it look easy tho
and this sod is one of them

I am completely the opposite in my diesel estate, all arms and elbows. I am sure Nick would get my car around there quicker than I ever could.

not entirely sure i agree with you jojo
its very fast, takes very quick reactions and decisions.
i feel i have more time on a race track than i do curby

btw we found out why my car was so slow and it nearly killed either me nick or gary hahaha

Yeah, Nick filled me in, hope it's sorted soon.

Regarding the track Daz, it's a very short track, a simple one, 30second lap! The idea is to learn the right line line for yourself, and try and nail it all in one go!

That's fantastic to see such a big car being thrown around like that Karl :racer: It reminds me a little bit of an angry taxi driver late for an important pick up

I think we've sort of sussed Daz's issues too, not in that we've fixed them, but what he's been experiencing is NOT typical S3 standard. Several things were WAY amiss on that car, and I think once rectified it'll be an entirely different machine.

Bill, there is a vicious rumour going round that your dear friend PT is quite keen on Curby in September, it'd be great if you could make it to one again to show the new breed how it's done!

I changed the wheels back today to the Khumos for road use. I took the chance to give the Rotas a damn good clean whilst they were off too.

I also decided to test out the time lapse feature on the SJ4000 Cam. It's a little bit dull as I've set the frame rate a little too slow, but still, it proves the theory.
