Morning all - opinions sought please...

Firstly I must add i'm not one to take risks with safety. My front tyres look to be down to maybe just over 3mm (not down to the wear bar yet) and I would normally change them around this point, or at least I had originally intended to change them before the winter.

I'm collecting my new S3 on 2nd September however so i'm reluctant (and hadn't budgeted) to fork out almost £300 for a new set of front tyres only to hand the car over in 3 months time.

Assuming 8mm on a new set of tyres i've done about 22,500 miles in 27 months and used 5mm. That would suggest i'm more than comfortable for the next 3 you think?

Cheers,

Mark

I'd keep an eye on them and observe the 2mm wear bars. Any more is pushing your luck IMO, even though 1.6mm is the limit.
I'm sure you'll be fine.

I'd just be changing them, 3mm and less the water displacing ability of the tyre is seriously compromised. If we get some ***** weather you might struggle to trade in a bent car.

Been out this afternoon and measured the tread depth - 3mm. Not happy driving on less than that so a new pair ordered for Friday fitting. On the plus side, £140/each compared to the £200/each i'd expected (runflats). A return trip to Stirling next week via the Lakes so i'll get my moneys worth out of the new rubber!
