Apologies if this has been covered. I can't seem to find anything? It's one of the only things I can't seem to nail down. Just wondering what's the best option aiming for around 350bhp, 034 Motorsport don't do one with the throttle body on the right side. Integrated Engineering was the next option but is quite expensive. So just wondered if anyone else had come across a decent one or is the OE one good enough if ported and polished? Cheers

For 350bhp the oe one doesn't need to be touched

You'll always gain something, but gains are gonna be better noticed on higher power cars moving a greater volume of air. I think it's smart to upgrade if you can afford it, the oe ones are **** thin in cross section compared to the aftermarket ones, so it will definitely make for a more efficient setup in terms of flow, but it's also dependant on the rest of the components, no 1 part can work miracles

Btw I thought the 034 one could be flipped like the IE manifold as its a 2 piece bolted jobbie.

theirs swaps plenum side as required. Its not a very big plenum however

Well, in terms of the 034, I emailed them and spoke to a bloke named Joe who informed me that they didn't make one to fit the S3 with the TB on the right side. I'm just going off what he said really. Has anyone tried and tested the manifold?

Thats boll*x for a start... Bill fitted one to a TT BT build he did not so long back

Lol, I'm confused. Why did he tell me different and block a sale? I'm pretty baffled.

They didn't get the S3 in the US so maybe that confused them... and... typically left and right of a VAG car is taken from the perspective of sitting in the car rather than looking in the bay so the correct handedness of an S3 inlet is left...

Not that it matters as the 034 is left or right 'handed' as all you do is flip it round

<tuffty/>

He mentioned the lack of S3's in the U.S. as the reason. But I was quite detailed with my description and still got told they didn't do one. Anyway, thanks for clearing it up, is the 034 any good? What kind of power did the TT make?

Right, should be no bother if I'm aiming for around 350 then lol. Unless there are any other options you can think of?

yeah... std inlet manifold as I don't believe there to be much in the way of gains at that power level...

<tuffty/>

Thank you all for the advice. I suppose we'll have to wait and see when it's bolted back together. I'm sure it's something that can be addressed when the dyno figures get printed.

...although in fairness I have not seen one fitted to a 1.8t at this level so who knows... a GT based turbo may gain something as larger inlets tend to be of benefit at higher RPM where bigger framed turbos are still flowing ok but on a K04 hybrid I don't know... personally I would save your money, get the engine/turbo etc where it needs to be then if you still have money burning a hole in your pocket buy the mani and see what difference it makes... it may lift midrange a bit but I doubt it will lift power much beyond normal hybrid levels at higher rpm...

While it will flow ok to support this power level doesn't mean it will have a positive effect on a smaller turbo'd setup... its all relative... the TT has a GT35, cams and revs to 8000 rpm... inlets tend to benefit setups that can still flow air at the higher RPM... if you are still planning to run small port then inlet mani is not going to be a great investment IMO...

Yeah, I think that is the better option for now. We'll see what happens.

Yeah I think I may be a little OTT with my setup ideas. Trying to do things the once but I know that it rarely works like that when modding engines. Thanks again. This has helped a lot.

Bill has an SEM manifold for sale.

[QUOTE=" edit: I think Bill sells the SEM manifolds so it would be worthwhile getting it from him to save $$ on shipping[/QUOTE]

:)

There is a difference between having one for sale and "selling them".

LMAO
you would think they would know their own manifold is reversible??
It is.. as tuffty has posted. We used one a GT35 stroker TT. Only on std size throttle however.. Thats back in for upgrades currently and 80mm body being added to it along with a hybrid GT35 now

Not really..
Its mere semantics... as to having stock at time or ordering in..

Either way.. I sell SEMs.. as used in Badgerwagen to very good effect

I don't want to argue about something so stupid but there is a huge difference between having one for sale and "selling them".

If you have one for sale that is a one off, it implies that once you sell it you won't have anymore. If you "sell them" one could reasonably expect that they can be purchased at any time. "Sell them" aka distributor =/= selling one that you have laying around

So SEMs are you preferred manifold? Mind saying what you sell them for ex vat as I'll need one if I get that head off you.

I was actually trying to help you. He has one in stock so you wouldn't need to wait for it. No need for the smart comments.

all due respect I have no time to argue nonsense with you

SEMs I sell /End

They are my preferred inlet yes.

Sorry I didn't see it that way. No offence taken anyway, just had a bad day working on the car!

I'm looking into making a small batch of budget performance inlets as I know few people don't want to pay the SEM prices but these ones I will make will never be as good as the SEM ones in performance.

Yes, you would! Bit ridiculous really. Anyway, how can I get hold Of one of your lovely SEM manifolds? :tongueclosed:

What about getting a plenum and welding on the runners from a large port inlet manifold like tuffty did? I really liked that idea.
