Hi guys

My S1 is expected end of June so not long now but I really want the black wrap on the boot that so many have on this forum -

Is this something Audi can do for me before I pick the car up or have you guys just got this done by a third party?

Thanks for the help

Sam

Get it done by a proven wrap specialist. Should be £75 odd.

I had mine painted by Audi along with the roof, rear diffuser and the mirrors. @SamS1

Was that an option? I couldn't see any options for that the dealer was just as confused as me as he couldn't find any options for it

How much extra did that cost you? :salute:

It's not a factory option so it cost me £800 to do something that should have been a factory option @SamS1

Before delivery.
I would have gone somewhere else but I know how dealers can be funny about paint work. I am actually glad I let them
paint the car as I am having issue with paint work as there was issues with the factory paint work

They also paints the rear diffuser. In relation to the mirrors, the entire mirror was painted not just the mirror cap.

Having had a similar amount of spraying done on my S1 (to fix some scrapes some kind person put on it!), £800 is ludicrous! £400 would have been a sensible quote for the roof/diffusor/mirrors.

I suspect a lot of the charge was for labour. Not mention I love in London so a lot of things a re extortionate but you do get what you pay for and they also paint my Audi rings.

Yes, when I got the boot wrapped the cheapest I could find was £120 inc. VAT. When I mentioned I'd seen people had done it for £60-70 on here, places were happy to turn away the business.

I ended up going to Raccoon in Edenbridge, which was recommended to me by a number of people, including Audi themselves and some London detailers that charge hideous prices for their services.

Was very impressed, and they had (i) a number of large household name companies having their vans wrapped there, and (ii) a range of Lambos / Ferraris / McLarens etc. being wrapped there, both of which gave me confidence that it was going to be decent.

Exactly - I'd read some horror stories about deep scratching and a poor job done in intricate corners etc. - can't be dealing with that when it comes to your pride and joy!

Agreed once it goes wrong there is no going back.

Yeah I got a quote from one in Bromley and it was £150 for the tailgate

Think I'll have to get it wrapped not painted!

@Ian Whiffen are they any good? Got to find a decent one down here SE

I have used them for black backing for my fish tanks and seem them applying vinyl to vans but have never seen what there quality of work is like when it comes to cars.

I highly recommend Raccoon in Edenbridge, not too far from Bromley. They can do it while you have a coffee!

Is that where you got yours? I want somewhere that has been tried and tested lol don't want no Cowboys! :search:

Yes it is, Sam. I got recommended them by Topaz Detailing in London (a very reputable detailer, so I understand), as well as Audi, and through a number of forums etc.

Definitely recommend them, they did a great job - their place looks more like lab than a garage inside, and you can watch the whole process if you want. It's also guaranteed!

Another good point is that they don't use any sharp implements near your car (some cut the wrap on your car's surface, which is obviously dangerous if it goes wrong!).

@SamS1 whoever you decide to go to for your wrap, make sure they are using a top quality wrap material. If they are using cheap and nasty it will fail or even worse... take the lacquer and/or paint when you come to remove it.
Speak to them about it. A good vinyl applicator will know his materials and how the manufacturer intends it to be fitted.
As mentioned above, don't expect to pay £60-80 and get a top job. Likewise if your having it fitted 'while-u-wait' and the guy is done in 20mins... he's not doing it right.
Finally... Don't let this put you off. There are a lot of cowboys in this trade just so your research before you commit. Think of it like getting a tattoo, if you're unsure..go somewhere else.

Hope this helps.
