Hi All
My missus is looking at purchasing a secondhand 1.6 TDi A1 Sport.
Anyhow owners on here care to give me some reviews/experiences?

We recently had a 1.4TFSi and loved the power in that. Never had a chance to drive the 1.6TDi yet.

Thanks in advance

More and more I'm thinking the hyper efficient modern little charged petrol engines are the way to go.
The EU emissions regs are killing diesels with the need for EGR and DPF valves etc to keep them in check.
Considering that these little petrols can now get real world 50-60 mpg, and that most people buy an A1 for short trips where a TDI is never going to warm up and given you its benefits (just the draw backs of clogged DPF) it's a no brainer to go TFSI. Plus a TFSI is more refined and drivable.

Sure, if you do a lot of longer distances then TDI still wins, but most people wouldn't be looking for an A1 for that type of journey, more likely a A3 or other small exec/business saloon.

Hopefully that gives you some food for thought! Really depends on the types of miles the better half plans to do, anything other than 50+ miles per journey and these are the bulk of the journeys and I say go TFSI.

My MiL recently got an A1 S-Sline 1.4 CoD and before that she had a 320d, she says she'd never go back to TDI now.

So you reckon the 1.4TFSi is the best bet? Car would be mainly used for town driving and country roads.

For sure, if most trips are a nip through town or 15 miles to the next village on a B road. The 122 and the 140 variant of the 1.4 TFSI are both good. The 140 get Cylinder on Demand as well so is a bit more efficient on a longer run plus you get that extra poke for overtakes and enjoying those country roads a bit more!

Well we test drove the 1.6 TDi today and it seemed like a good wee engine. However the 1.4TFSi was the one that out the biggest smile on the missus' face! 1.4 it is then!

Potential spanner in the works but my partner has had the 1.6d for over a year now and mainly does short journeys. She's had excellent economy and the dpf light came on once and a quick run down a A road.

Where the 1.4 ain't bad imo it can't touch the 1.6 diesel for economy.

Just seen a red with gloss black roof, 2013 S Line 1.4TFSi Sportback with 9.5k miles for £12k ono. Good deal? Might make cheeky offer of £11k!

The 1.6 cr range are great little cars, doesn't matter if you have a 75bhp model or 110 they just de tuned and all remap to 145bhp, not been biased as both are transformed mapped' but the 1.6 tdi would be me
