Just racked up 4000 miles and used a litre of oil so far. I know vag group cars are kind of notorious for a bit of oil usage, I had a Skoda superb that used some. I'm just checking if others are using the same. That's what I love about this forum you don't have to ring the manufacturer up and get fobbed off lol.

My check oil level warning came on last week at 6500 miles. I completed my 200 mile airport run before making it to the dealer yesterday where they put 0.5 litres in and the rest of the 1l bottle in the boot.

This is by far the least amount of oil of any of my last 3 cars has used (had a BMW 135i that would get through 1l/1000 miles - the dealer would only top it up of the key said it needed oil when I went in, which was hit and miss as the oil warning would be intermittent for a couple of hundred miles before it was on solid - I got to the point of not caring and only going in when it had been on solid for a few days!)

It's not just a VAG thing, all modern engines use super thin oil to make them more efficient, it annoys me as I'd rather 0.3mpg less and never have to worry about the oil!

Thanks for that. I would agree with you, the cost of the long life oil is rediculous, I have now used my free litre from Audi so need to pop to the dealership. My 56 reg Clio 197 didn't really use any oil between services, I think I have been spoilt the last couple of years

7k miles topped up with .25litre so far! Personally I think a litre of oil in 4k is relatively normal

Better than 600 miles a litre guys ;) had a little dabble with an S1 2015 today. Not bad...

Funnily enough, i checked mine on saturday and topped it up a little. Just over 5k miles now.

Yeah bought a 5 litre from the Audi dealer. Didn't seem worth getting a litre top up pack

1 litre in 6000 miles when the top up oil light came on.

ive had loads of vag car , never topped one up , i do change the oil myself between services though , not daily driver cars either

Funny how it says Castrol recommended on the oil filler cap, yet they give you a litre of Shell in the boot!

dealers will use any thing they have ! for service most use quantum oil but charge for castrol , deeler service is very poor
change your oil to fuchs race pro s and it wont use a drop !

might not make any performance difference but what it will do is keep it performing and clean
use supermarket oil and you wont be doing 165 for very long !!!!
not going onto it now but oil does effect performance in many different ways

Only 'cause your ripping yourself off by going to the main stealer for oil , my last lot of 504 507 cost £19 for 5L .

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but what oil does the s1 come with out of the factory? I am a perfectionist and would like to keep it the same make.

Not sure, mine came with a litre of Titan as a top up but when I went to audi they sold me 5 litres of Quantum. As long as it's long life it should be ok.

Is it not in the back of the owners manual?

if you where a perfectionist why would you want to use it any way ? much better quality oil you can use !

Don't have the tools at my house to do a full oil change. So plan is to top it up with oil Thats already in,And change for a better quality oil in the New Year.

could use pretty much any 5/30 vw approved oil for that
