How many people wish they never went from s3 to rs3 and wish they had bought something else? Purely based on because inside its basically the same car?

Hi there ,tbh my old s3s 8p ,where nothing like the rs3 inside ! Why because the RS3 is more refined and I have a very high spec rs3 ..few extras ,boost control ,launch and it's my first dsg ..ohh and the engine sounds

So it is definatly a car worth upgrading to froma s3. Been looking about all audi approved ones have rubbish spec and not even worth looking at.

Well tbh if you like the 8p s3 your going love the Rs3 .You could go for a s3 8v or wait few months for the rs3 8v .Theres a daytona rs3 just in at Milton Keynes ,today ,check it out ..

There is going to be a short list if any of people that didnt like / regret the change from an S3.

I did the swap, after 10 years/ 3 x S3's , the last being a Sprint Blue 8P 3 Door black edition which was well spec'd.

Like Kelza, I found a mint higher spec / low mileage RS3, with warranty and maintance packages.
I liked the 8P anyway. I changed from 3 door to 5 door, first DSG, the engine!, the toys, I do it again without fail.

Would or have any of you buy your rs3 from a none audi dealership?

Spending RS3 money, I wouldn't normally entertain it.

But if the right car came along and it had FASH, and still covered by Audi Warranty then go for it. You can research the car through Audi pre-purchase.

You would never have to deal with a third party dealer again.

I would have happily bought an RS3 from an independent if it was still within Audi warranty. The only area of potential risk would be if the car was out of warranty and you were relying on the dealer warranty.

Problem with buying from an independent when it's still within warranty is that there are a few RS3's that have been remapped and then put back to std as the ECU needs to be opened a claim under warranty could be rejected whilst a main dealer Car is insuring you against this.

If I was concerned about that risk I would ask for a written document from the seller stating whether the car had been chipped, then I would take it to a main dealer and ask them to confirm it hadn't been chipped.

If it turned out that the car was falsely sold as unmodified I would return the car and get my money back.

Lot of hassle especially if the Car is not local to you.

Have a read of my thread mate as I've just done exactly what you are looking at.

I traded in my 2010 Sportback S3 for a 2013 RS3 and dont regret a single aspect of switching, it's a very very different car despite the very close relationship.

http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/muzzas-2013-ibis-white-rs3-2-5-tfsi-quattro.229829/

I bought mine from SSC in Huddersfield and It's a belter of a car, immaculate, very very well specced, has over 3 years warranty remaining and the best example I could find after weeks trawling Audi's stock...

A friend also just bought another stunning blue one from there too and it's also a highly specced mint example.

Dont be put off buying away from Audi, there's plenty of excellent cars around outwith, just do your research first through Audi CS on anything you're looking at, they're suprisingly forthcoming with car history when you call them and ask for information.

Any questions please feel free to ask.

Seen that blue one on there site other day uploaded it on my instagram its sexay lol whats the handling like on these as im sure your aware the 8p s3 is abit boatish. Also second question is the front bumpers ive seen some like yours with the silver bits on them bottom and seen them colour coded. The colour coded ones have they been done afterwards by the owners? Personally i dont like the colour coded ones

Handling is better than a standard S3 for sure, handles very much like my S3 did with B8 dampers, the RS3 is well damped from the factory. That said it's still a fat assed car the Sportback (in S3 and RS3 guise) and can become a little unsettled at the back at high speed over really windy b roads I found, bigger rear anti roll bar helps with this immensely the tendency to understeer a good bit too.

Good tyres is where it's at with the RS3 make such a difference over the standard Contis, Michelin Pilot Super Sport is what I run or Eagle F1 Assymetric 2 I also had previously on another car and were excellent, go for 235/35 all round as opposed to the 235 front 225 rear setup if your wheels are standard.

That's called the Aluminium styling pack mate and was a £500 odd option, plenty of them have it and I agree, I prefer the look of the RS3 with it even on my white car.

I definatly want it in white or blue swaying to white tbh. Anyways only time will tell still few month of swapping yet but just like to know a while before hand lol

I put 5k miles on an 8P S3 DSG whilst waiting for RS3 v2 to arrive, for me they couldn't be more different to drive, the 8P falls to pieces when driven hard and the engine is soulless and nasty, I would much rather have a slower R32 than the S3, i really didn't enjoy it at all

I would chop my bits of before i gave up my RS3 for an S3 :)

Hi just wondering are you talking about a standard s3?

"Soulless and nasty "might be a bit strong
While I don't regret my S3's, I wouldn't swap back now.

The standard vs modified argument can work both ways.

S3 standard 265 bhp 258 lbft
S3 Stage One 300 - 315 bhp 318 - 333 lbft

RS3 standard 335 bhp 332 lbft
RS3 Stage One 395 - 410 bhp 390 - 400 lbft

Ever play top trumps? ;):D

I wasnt meaning one was better, just asking if his comments were based on a standard s3, as he didnt seem to be describing a properly modified one!

My S3 was a great car, I loved mine and ad no point did I think it was not worth every penny I paid for it, my RS3 is just better lol

What's the fuel difference like is it noticeable?

The 1.8t's were best bhp/ per mpg ( modded)

Not much in it on the 2.0t 4cyl S3 vs 2.5t 5 cyl RS3.

Around town maybe a bit lower on the RS, but longer journeys the RS is better, probably helped by 7th gear cruising.

I'm lucky fuel economy is not an issue with my mileage.
If I was doing 40miles each way a day, I might feel different.

I get around 26/28 in my s3 and I do 30 miles a day. What do you get?

I don't really study it, but Ive seen 21-22 pottering around town, 35 on a longer run.

When I had my S3 in all stages of tune I averaged 26-28mpg doing 45 miles a day (fast roads with little town driving)
My RS3 which is standard and the same running I get 25mpg

Had a brand new 12 plate S3 for 5 months before swapping it for the RS3. Absolutley no regrets whatsoever. The S3 never lived up to the hype for me and would have been a lot better mapped, however I value warranty. RS3 is an animal compared to the S3.

Just what i wanted to hear mate. Cheers for that

We usually get 200 miles to a tank around town so to speak
On a run 320-340 is achievable
Only use Shell vpower nitro on fill ups.

I found it similar to both S3's we owned but better on a longer run.
As Paul said the 7th gear makes a difference.

25.4 per tankfull from new of Shell V-Power Super Unleaded - just never seems to change...

But for the record our 2.0 TFSi TT is similar @ 27.0mpg - must be the way we drive...:racer:

The again, the mpg of our 3-pot 1.4 TDi 90bhp A2 begins with a '5' and we drive that a lot harder...

I can live with 25mpg just not less than 18 ideally haha

It's the way the 5-pot engine behaves and performs in real world driving that makes the RS3 what it is, Allman45.

Tried one on the Thursday (13th October 2011) and we'd found and bought one, BLUEY :friends:, some 40-hours later; a superb, quick, fast, safe, reliable, all weather motor car is the Audi RS3 :yahoo: and to most its invisible as they believe it an S-line A3... :racer:

Having had one for 2 years now..... I wouldn't say it's worth the premium over the S3.
Too many warranty issues and trips/calls to dealerships / Audi UK to sort out problems on a car they never developed properly.

The only saving grace is the 5 pot...

What's Audi CS? I've just purchased an RS3 from an external dealer but the car remains under warranty till November. I'd like to find out previous records if possible?
