In the middle of changing my front springs to H&R, I've had the passenger shock out and swapped springs over but now I can't get the shock to sit back in the hub. I've had it in about an inch and then popped the wheel on and dropped it to hopefully get it to sit right but no luck - it just won't budge at all.

I'm wondering if it's possibly to have popped the cv joint out on the driveshaft when leavering down to get the shock out??

Any help would be appreciated!

Fear not, it's in!!

However now I'm stuck other the drivers side because the anti roll bar is in the way which stops the driveshaft dropping low enough to allow removal of the strut - any thoughts? I've tried the hub nut to slacken the shaft but it's toooo tight and won't budge

I found the easiest and quickest way was to remove the whole strut with hub attached. Took about an hour a side. Pop track rod, remove drop link one end, remove 3 nuts from bottom ball joint, hub nut and your good to go

With the bolts still done up on the top mount, spreader tool inserted at the bottom, wd40/silicone sprayed on the bottom.
Does the tube move in the hub? If so I just put my foot on the hub and press down to fully release. Then I undo the top bolts. Press the hub down again and lift/kink the strut to remove it.
Ensure the tool is inserted when you re install.
Note: Make sure the tool isn't impinging on the bottom of the strut mounting fin.

You need the anti roll bar links disconnected on both sides to allow the bar to drop and allow the hub to drop.
As above use something to spread the strut clamp open, I usually use a tapered punch.
Tap it in from the bottom then it'll slide out easily.

I found the passenger side fairly easy to remove, just getting the strut to sit back in the hub was a right ball ache - managed it after a while by lowering the car down with the wheel attached and it fell into place.

My biggest issue was the driver side because I couldn't get the hub nut off - managed to snap two extensions bars, used a 10ft scaffold pole on the end of my breaker bar and it would not budge one bit! With it still in place the arm wouldn't drop low enough for me to remove the strut as the driveshaft was hitting the role bar and wouldn't allow enough movement. Would the fact I had the drop link attached on the side I had already done mean the role bar had less flex than if they were both undone, if you get what I mean?

In my last post I said undo the roll bar link both sides!
No need to touch the hub nut, by removing both links the anti roll bar drops more.

Ahh yes, sorry dude didn't see your post just clicked reply to an email I had!

Will give that a go at the weekend. For now I've got 3 springs done and one left to do - can't cause any damage to the car if I drive it I guess other that possible tyre wear?

It's not ideal or the safest and I'm not sure how the police would look on it, but it wouldn't harm the car any.
