2.0TDi Oil Pump / Balancer shaft problems - the definitive guide! Audi VW Skoda SEAT

Hi smithy. Where are you located and duo you still have the pump?

Safe to assume that my 170HP BMN is safe then?

Hi guys, I have a 2007 56 plate audi a6 2.0tdi. Bought a few weeks ago. Love the car but am now concerned because of the oil pump issue.
My engine number is BRE. Do you know whether the oil pump is chain or gear driven?
I'm planning on taking it to a garage on Tuesday and get them to drop the sump off to take a look.
What would be your advice if the pump was chain driven? If the engine is gear driven what would be the issues surrounding it? And where would I be able to get the parts needed to make the engine trouble free for another 100k miles?

I like to be informed when I go to a mechanic, less chance of getting ripped off.
any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi dentsy,
after spending the afternoon trawling this forum I've come across a company called KMB parts direct in sheffield.
I haven't phoned them yet but will be after bank holiday Monday to have a chat about my car. They have had good reviews from other members and seem to have the uprated parts that I would need. Plus they would be able to tell me what oil pump setup I have. Will keep you posted on what they say.

Apologies for probably asking in the wrong thread, but i've got a 12 plate A4 B8 Avant, it's got a 2.0l CR engine, is this affected?

Ok thanks, I honestly was thinking of selling my car so did some Looking at some BMW 3 series and 5 series, the 5 is nice but very big in the touring and after Looking at my car when she was on the forecourt mine stood out the best nothing like it. So I have decided to put in money to get this sorted for peace of mind. Going to get a price of the Indy for :-
1- balance shaft
2 - DMF
3- front belt and tensioner
4-cam belt and pump
Prob hoping to get it all done for just over a grand is this about right ?

Si

I think you'll need much deeper pockets for all that unless you're fitting it all?

To give you an idea of costs, paying someone to supply and fit dmf and clutch will be around £750, oil pump balance shaft about £450 mark. I believe even more if you have chain driven oil pump due to additional labour. Cambelt and water pump around £350.

These prices are roughly what I remember paying at an independent vag specialist garage, if you go to an Audi dealer you can expect to double these prices!

No not complete pump just as I understand it replacing parts on chain driven is more labour intensive.

Food for thought...

I've been told the old 1.9 chain driven set up is bullet proof. It is possible to covert 2.0 TDI to it but will cost more

One piece of advice I would give is whoever does the pump for you will have to drop the subframe. Make sure they have the correct tool to align it properly on reassembly. When mine was done the sub frame was just 2mm out but it skewed the whole steering over and it took three wheel alignment attempts to work out why mine couldn't be set properly and it was only because I took it to main dealer out of desperation that this was spotted.

Ok mate thanks for that advice I will make sure he is aware of the subframe alignment , what tool do they use ?

Si
No idea, all I know is I was told by audi tech that there is a special tool for this

I had shaft replaced and new engine mounts in about 4 to 5 hours

Where abouts are you based? if near Cannock I highly recommend midland VW

I am in South Wales mate , I know a guy locally who is a friend of the family that is a very good mechanic and is good on Audi and bmw.
That's a brilliant turnaround time mate ! So I assume that cost included new sump gasket and oil etc
