Had a bit of time on my hands today after work, so took a few pics down at H&W Shipyard Belfast.

Hope you like :)

Nice car and composition :) But from a photography stand they are a bit flat but that could be down to the lighting... The 4th one would look great with a graduated layer mask. I would do it here to show you what I mean but I don't have Photoshop at work :(

Dam that looks good in red, I ahd a black Saloon B8.5 in black with rotors, S-line and it was ok but looked so boring, I am not a fan of the newer square driving lights, the rounds ones look better although my RS doesn;t have any at all.

I know what you mean mate, the square fogs were something I wasn't too sure on myself with the b8.5. What RS do you have?

Yeah this part of the docks is quite abandoned, a vast area of unused land with a road going through it. Literally the best place for pics

Thanks buddy, I'm very proud of my roots and heritage. Belfast is obviously very famous for its ship building and the yellow gantry cranes are probably it's most recognised landmark.

Nice pics, I was working on that platform a few months ago and recognise the spot.

Aaron tried to find this spot on way home from the meet. Is that the bit of ground to the left of the Audi garage (odyssey side). Seemed to be only one way in - a gate on the road side bu

Oops!

A gate on the road side but was all closed over! Do you just open gate? Are you allowed in ok? Or is there going to be blue lights in my mirror!

aw crap Andy, I forgot to tell you about this place at the meet. Basically when driving up towards the odyssey from Audi, take the road on the right just before the odyssey itself, the road to take you up round by the titanic building,Belfast Met etc.

Go on through the traffic lights at the titanic building and it's the first road/entrance on the right past the carpark. This is the T13 skate boarding building, there will be a gate at the entrance but it's always open. Drive on in, past the building, follow the road on around to the left, you will go past the massive oil rig and yellow cranes. Keep driving on up to the top and that is the deserted land where I took the pics.

Hope that makes sense to you lol

There is a sign saying its private property but I have been in there loads of times, as has everyone else, day and night, taking pics, looking at the oil rig etc. Harbour police have been in a few times, drove past me and not said a word, so you will be fine :)

Thanks mate, nice one. Were you working on the oil rig?

Yes I was on this one when it first came in, just before that blue net up the top went on. As I was up top, I used to see cars shoot up past the perimeter fence, slow down for a hump, then shoot off again!

Car's looking good though, just be wary of them blasting and spraying near that perimeter fence when you pass!

Thanks mate, I don't know what it is but these big rigs fascinate me. The Blackford Dolphin was in the same spot a couple of years ago and it was known as Belfast's unofficial Christmas tree lol

This one I think is called the Byford Dolphin, and at the other side of the docks we have the Borgny Dolphin which looks rather run down and abandoned

If you research the Byford, it has a very colourful and dark past. By today's standards, it's actually regarded as small, but still, they are all a bit huge!
To be fair, it is one of the scabbiest I have ever been on - talk about milking it out. The Borgny I heard is ready to be punted, but there are hundreds of drilling rigs worldwide sitting idle, so it will be there a while I guess.

Adds to the skyline and keeps local businesses busy in the meantime.

Freakin heck, I just googled Byford dolphin there, and read about the diving bell incident in the 80s, 4 divers killed, one of them literally exploded. Me and mates occassionally sit down at the rig in our cars at the perimeter gate and watch the guys working on it, if we'd nothing else to do lol. Will certainly feel a bit eerie sitting down at the Byford now.
