We're off to Durham for a few days, so keep an eye out for a black 3 door S3 ;)

If you are from the area, any recommendations for places to visit?

Depends what your into :)

The Durham light Infantry museam is worth a look around if you are into that sort of stuff. Also you can visit the Cathedral which is fantastic. The shopping isnt actually that bad with some decent little places to eat.

For SHMBO theres a fantastic coffee/ cake shop (Fennels) I think its calles with the most amazing cakes.

For more shopping visit the Metrocentre its 20mins up the A1 but traffic is a PITA as its a Moron Mecca.
For more choice of shopping, eating, drinking, sight-seeing, get the train to Newcastle, its 10 mins from Durham station!

Hope that helps :)

Also, theres Revolution Motorstore which is also near the Metrocentre so about 20mile north of Durham. They have a few nice Audis in and various Rice *****. They have APR goodies and have the carbon airbox on view as well as a lot of wheels etc. Only if youre bored though as its not that interesting ;-)

OK cheers guys, the wife just said no to the motorstore lol. Is Barnard Castle worth the trip? Looking to get a bit of walking done as well.

Lol, are you surprised that the wife don't want to go to the motorstore? What you do is let her go shopping, (with your card of course) and you browse the motorstore. Sorted. :) x

Pfff just bought her a new kitchen and I'm taking her away for a few days...she's not having anything else :p...TBH the kitchen was a tradeoff from when I ordered the car, I said I'll have a new car and you can have a kitchen :D

Don't be a meanie, your car was more than the kitchen, buy her some new shoes, lol. Enjoy your few days away. :) x

Yep worth a visit, travel up there for work regularly over last 5-6 years.....from Durham/Newcastle take a drive over "the tops" via Stanhope.

In Barnard Castle there is the Bowes museum that is worth a visit, as is Raby Castle, you are also not far from "high force" water falls which is nice walking territory and there are a few nice walks in and around Barnard Castle itself.

For food and drink the Three Horseshoes in town is pretty good, newly refurbished with good pub food.

If you are looking for somewhere to stay I would recommend Headlam Hall ( I stay there 3-4 nights a month) or the Rose and Crown at Romaldkirk, both 15 mins drive from "Barnie"

Btw there is a pic of my car outside Jersey farm hotel in the "time to show off you car" thread which is on the outskirts of Barnard Castle.

Thanks for that, the hotel is sorted and we're booked into their restaurant for the 1st night, but your recommendations for food may come in handy for the other days ;) Just looked on Google maps at that road B6278 from Carterway heads to Barnard castle? Looks nice :);)
