Is it possible to get these in a manual S3?

Just eat baked beans .

It's gearbox not exhaust
You sure? In my cooper s that used to pop / burble all the time, that was a manual.

I know that the Ecu can be tailored toward more pops and bangs but didn't think it was gearbox specific

As far as I'm aware it's a characteristic of S-Tronic only
Yeh as standard, but I'm pretty sure it'd do it with a milltek or similar. I know mine does it a lot more now, granted it is s-tronic

You get the occasional pop and fart if revs/gear change/ etc all coincides but tbh is very infrequent. What sounds good though is when changing down the gears and blip the revs. For me it just sounds epic (when it works) and glad I have a manual for that. :)

Does the same with s-tronic, just need to use the paddles. Quite an addictive little noise :)

I love a bit of this! Great when rounding a corner from high to low speed...!

I have only ever had 1 pop on a change from 1st to 2nd in my manual, was a proper full blooded attempt at acceleration.
Too old to get excited about that kind of thing.

Love the pops my s-tronic makes on the upshift. Downshift just blips in S or using paddles, haven't heard any crackles yet... More like a sewing machine...

My manual Cooper S used to crackle on the down shift and when lifting off. I think the S3 is too computerised/refined to pop and crackle?

Yep, I can go with that, I don't hear / not aware of mine making noises anymore :)

As an aside, the upshift pops and bangs is just a "customer delight" feature - in LC mode they are completely absent to give you faster up shifts :)

A shame really, my thoughts are - Audi could make it pop/crackle/bang after the blip/down shift but have to hold back with their technology for the RS3 model. From videos i've seen of the RS3, this seems to have more crackling from the exhaust. Here's a good example -

The upshift pop is certainly a delight in the S3! It seems to do it most when over 5,000 revs in S mode.

Ah, Sir will have to pay a teensy weensy bit more for the optional sports exhaust :p

Yeah, V8 is right, the S-Tronic parps are an added 'feature' and although they sound good they're not there when using the quicker accelerating LC method. They're just for fun but I like them all the same.

If it's snap, crackle and pop you want these things are something else. I was at a mini dealership last week and it sounded like a ww2 reinactment

Why on earth did i watch that RS3 video?.... sounds ****** awesome!!!

Also that mini sounds unreal!! How they manage that??..

Well I want my car to do that.. chances of getting someone to do it?. Haha

Mini sounds great, but it's like some of the BMW M cars, too try hard for me. Sounds artificial like A45

IMO of course :whistle2:

If only I didn't need proper back seats and a boot :sob:

If I didn't care about proper back seats/doors and other practicalities there's really only one choice:

That roar at 0.49 secs.......................OMFG ;) ........................one day I hope....................... :)

For some reason mine sounded like a machine gun today! Haven't used her for a week, unsure if that made some kind of difference

U won't get pops, bangs or burbling with the standard exhaust on an S3 wether it's s-tronic or manual. Edit: u can get some (quiet) pops with a manual if you know how!

S-tronic will get the burps/farts on up shifts - more pronounced and louder with higher revs in s mode. U won't gets burps/farts on a manual with any exhaust system, it's a characteristic of the s-tronic and is to do with the speed at which the gears are changed - u simply can't change gear that quick with a manual.

For pops, bangs and burbling u need an after market performance exhaust system, and that is for both s-tronic and manual - but then u will need to put up with cabin drone as they all seem to be very loud!

In my experience with performance exhausts, miltek and Remus tend to be on the more comfortable volume side of things and sound a lot smoother/nicer, then other brands such as cobra and scorpion tend to be louder and tractor like! I would always go resonated - non res is never that much different to be honest (at least when booting it on boost), tickover and low revs is the when u really notice the difference.

My experience is mostly based on full turbo back systems with sports cats, with full decat systems u get more pops and bangs, cat back systems considerably less.

You can get a manual car to pop/fart on the upshift, but only if you flat shift and time it right at the right revs.

It's been done by a few owners on here.

Or you can visit Rick@Unicorn when he's developed the flat shift launch program for manual cars ;)

Agreed, but it's difficult until you learn exactly when your car is likely to do it, and even then they're not very loud when the car is properly warm, better bangs when cold but then we all know we should be taking it easy when cold.

And for pops like the ones in that video, u certainly need an after market exhaust! Or an RS4 like the video is demonstrating ;)

That video is the result of ECU tuning specifically for launch, flat shift and spark cut on a manual car, by Unicorn.

It would make all those noises on a standard exhaust, but flames only with free flow aftermarket exhaust :)

Ok then, add to my list that u need to get that remap! Point was it's not happening standard ;)

Cool flames though!

He's already developed it for the S3 8P (back in 2012/13), won't be long until the 8V version gets developed :)
