After some advice if possible car has been running bad for a week now low boost over fuelling back firing engine management light on done a vcds scan last night and it brought up 4 faults all are for the lamba O2 sensor I understand there are 2 of these on my car is there any way of knowing which one is faulty or is it worth changing both is this part a main stealership part or are there any good aftermarket parts available my car is a 2001 a4 1.8t Quattro

I would check the coil packs first as they can cause false reading and the easy way is to take one off and see if she runs worse, if she does you know that one is good, put it back on and try another just to rule them out.

It runs fine on idle and normal driving but as soon as u ask a bit more from her she doesn't want to no feel it holding back and rdv seems to be a lot noisier plus the occasional back fire

Can you post the fault codes please, if its not coil packs or plugs then next step is check vacuum pipes (all of them inc 1 to dump valve.) , then oil pressure, then cam chain tensioner .

Very common fault on 1.8t,s also partially blocked cat can do it , if you have vcds it can tell you through measuring blocks which cylinders are misfiring and how many misfires per min which helps identify the fault. You can also read lambdas to see if its running weak (fuel trim )

Oh ok problem is I only had the vcds 3 days and have not got a clue how to work it managed to do a scan and will put codes up later but as to what u just said about measuring I not got a clue lol

Could be the cambelt timing ot turbo.

When was the belt last done as it could have jumped a tooth.

I would check the dump valve! Had a similar thing with mine, idled and runner ok but as soon as I put my foot down it lost power and juddered like it was missing. They do wear out and split over time. The OEM one isn't to expensive.

i was going to change the dv to a forge one anyway hoping to get under it this weekend and have a good look at it

Is there a flexi hose anywhere between the airflow meter and the turbo that can flex when the engine moves?
They can notorious for splitting, the split will usually be closed when idling, soon as you put the power on the engine moves and opens the split, and it runs like a bag of sh!t..

Plugs and leads, or coil packs in your case can beakdown under pressure too causing a misfire..

Save the fault codes to the log file(go to log file and open the scan results) then hold left click mouse button down and drag across over what you want to copy (the writing will turn blue) then right click over the blue and click copy then come on here click the left button so the cursor line is flashing click right button again and click paste.

Clear the faults , run the car then repost results please.

Engine codes relate to the same fault , knackered lambda sensor.
