Ill get some more pics of the car up this weekend now its complete in the engine bay. I am changing discs on the front and also have bought a Fluidamper too. For the time being and as the car is handling so well on 2WD I have taken off the diff and rear drive shafts for a weight saving of 40kg!!! Currently she sits at 237bhp/ton so I have a bit to play with. Might go carbon bonnet next.

Who does the best looking carbon bonnet?
OSIR did a very nice one,but not cheap.

I believe there are a few others around and you should try Backdraft Motorsport,as I am sure they did some carbon parts for their own car.

Yea I've got some stuff thru them too.... not too shabby

Got my auxiliary fuel pump and a few other parts.....fast,efficient,and saved me money by making sure some parts I didn't need were excluded from the sale.

The Seibon looks good value. Bear in mind I'm gonna Louvre the hell out of it :) 9 days to race day... I just ordered a Mishimoto Ally rad.

So Ive now had my first race at Brands. Quali in P2 and finish in P2 after a dodgy start! The pace was relentless. I think I did 63 laps in all!!!

Enjoy

Well done good racing you must be pleased you out there now

I guess you'll be practising the starts now!

Can you use launch control at all?

Pleased is not the word for it. Considering I have not raced for 2 years I am very pleased with both myself and also the car! To get P2 and have to graft for it is awesome.

I was trying to launch in second because when i do in first my wheels light up. I need to practice it. I don't have launch control as I am on stock ECU but no wheel sensors etc.

Wow. I have just joined here as I am about to embark on a Time Attack S3 build and after a bit of googling I found your thread. Reading through it has given me a lot of ideas. Out of curiosity why don't you use the 4wd system? Its one of the reasons I chose to change my plans to an S3 (I was originally planning on using a Seat Leon). I am thinking the weight penalty will be worth the extra traction.

You'll love and hate this place.

Love it for the information and help, hate it for killing your wallet.

I was really pleased to see the first race videos from this car,as it's owner has put a huge amount of time and effort into it.

I can tell from reading his thread. So many people would have given up at several points along this journey.
I have a 3000GT which is heavily modified which is my money pit at the moment. Fingers crossed she is sorted now and wont be changing for a while so I need something else to spend my money on. Hence the TA build.

I'm sure you know this already.....once started,it never ends!

I said 6yrs ago that I wouldn't modify my car.

15Degrees has taken this car from a bit of a mess when he bought it,to the spec it has now,and conquered so many pitfalls I think even I would have given up.

Haha yup. I have modified a few cars in my life. Every one of them started with me saying "Not modding this one". I have posted a newbie thread to save clogging up this one anymore.

Hiya and welcome. Glad Ive inspired you a bit. That's what forums are good at eh, ideas and inspiration on life's journey. So to your 4x4 question. To be honest I spent So so so so much time on the old ******** custom engine that I inherited and trying to make it work that when we finally decided to go back to stock, albeit upgraded stock I just wanted to get it working so we took off the whole system. Now it works well in 2wd only we have back on the jobs list to finally play with the 4x4 solution I had made by the electronics company.

Now my issue is that races are coming thick and fast, I have Silverstone on the GP circuit on Sunday and I don't want to do major dev work between races as we have a working package that is drivable in 2wd. So we will do it but not yet.

I have a ton of pictures to post up but we did a test day at Rock on Saturday and finally figured out the running to hot issue. Dodgy thermo! So we have removed it and fitted my old 1.8t straight through with no thermo and now it runs at full chat at about 85 which is great. I was very pleased to see how fast it was at rock and again easily the fastest car on the day.

It is back at AME this week for map check and a couple of small jobs I don't have time for this week ready for Sunday. Mods ive done but not posted yet

Fitted a twin catch tank system (Mishimoto)
Fitted the Mishimoto rad
Gold wrapped my intake system
Fitted my new 9.5 inch x 18 et20 Rota grids in Matt black (these look very nice)
Took the bonnet to single skin
Took the tailgate to single skin
Removed door bars and metal skins
Fitted extra scoop in passenger window
Drilled holes across rear window to let air out
Fitted USR rear discs
Fitted Audi B7 365mm front discs. To do this we split my AP's and fitted 2mm shims as the B7 are 34mm
Fitted new PF 01 front brake pads (Awesomeness but £400 a set)
Fitted a 16 inch Spal fan (took off the stock rad pack)
Fitted a new slam panel (mine was cracked)
To fit Green brake hoses x 4 :)

On the mods list are the following items

Ported CNC head
High torque custom cams (these need to be specced)
Pro Alloy 75 liter tank with quarter window fill system
Carbon seat probably Saprco pro ADV one
Cut out the rear quarters inner skins
Wifi tire temp and pressure monitoring system
Carbon brakes all round (might not be allowed these in Team Trophy0 I need to check before looking at them
New AST 3 way shox with stiffer springs
Possibly a Sequential box but this depends on our efforts with the 4x4
Syvecs ECU
Custom exhaust back box (bit louder as mine is 85db)
Brake balance gauge

You'll LOVE the Syvecs.

So many things it can do that the stock ECU can't and if you get non stock cams you'll need it for the valve timing.

Are you allowed to use a DSG.
If so the Syvecs can run that too.

Good luck for Silverstone.

Wow!! I'm nearly three hours into reading and watching all you've posted...

You are the b*llocks!!

I started my business just over a year ago and all is going great, touch wood...I'm about 18 months off building a track car.

I'm a racer at heart. Just caned up silverstone a few weeks back in a single seater and won. Done track days, Nurburgring in a stage 1 S3 on stock suspension and brakes in 9:12 and that's with just 10-12 Laps of experience. I hear 100 laps is just getting started there.

My missus can p*ss right off when the time comes.

You my man have just convinced me that the S3 we have all fallen for is the way to go. A cat C or D can be had at a good price at the min.

I'm well excited.

I will be keeping an eye on your progress. This website just got a lot more exciting!!

Sorry S3 Alex haha

**** me.

Sounds like you've got it all sorted and at the same time have a lot to do! haha. You will like the mishimoto rad. I have one in the 3KGT and even manages to keep that thing cool (which is saying something). Steer clear of their low temp thermostats though. They're useless. I was having overheating problems and turned out the previous owner put one in. Swapped out for standard one and all has been well ever since.

ha ha that made me smile. Don't **** the MR's off get one (or train one) that is into Motorsport like mine :) Then you get LOTS of support and help from family too! That's important because motorsport takes a lot of your time and you need to enjoy it and not have to make excuses as to why your in the garage for 15 hours ha ha ha

The S3 I think is one of the best if not the best looking cars on track. When I am in the paddock or on a track day everyone comes over to look at the car and I think that is a combination of that most young lads either had one or want one and that it looks mean with the big front grill and Matt black wrap :)

The next thing I want to do it find someone good with bodywork and lose my arches and have them replaced with a boxier DTM style arch and skirt.

If I remember,Backdraft made some carbon wings and bonnets a while back,so they may still have the moulds etc.or even some left.

Also TripleR Composites

www.triplercomposites.com

Make diffusers and splitters and were going to get around to making some up for some of us here,so they would be worth a look also.

Haha, no I meant she reigns in some of my spending at the minute. Holiday x2 and buying a bigger place in the new year. She's totally supportive with my life and business. She drives the S3 into London everyday and loves that she can beat most off the lights (plus she's not bad on the eye) I meant when the time comes to race competitively, she can do one when it comes to what I spend...

I got fed up with stripping cars down, rebuilding etc etc when I was a boy racer. Now at least I can have reliable fun. Ford RS's didn't tend to stay working for me for long haha

But to do what you've done, to race, yeaaaaa, that's a bit of me.

You have a tasty track car, and you're living MY dream!!

Keep it up man. Loving your work...

Craig.

Ah I understand :)

Yeah racing it gets under your skin. I sometimes wonder why I do it and then I get on the grid and I'm off and its all forgotten and it's total exhilaration and concentration. No feeling like it really especially when you built the car yourself that's sweet.

Silverstone looms, I'm nervous, looking damp and I don't have a damp tire! I have rock hard Direzzas for dry and super soft wets hmm I need a plan I do!

If there is one thing I've learnt from your thread, it's that you're resourceful, and proactive. You'll get it sorted!

ha ha yeah I bought some R888 but I don't have rims as they can't get them to me in time in ET20 so I hope someone has a tire machine on the day. GT Cup cars are there and they usually come fully loaded support wise.

Ah the joys of racing :) Quali at Silverstone the car was all over the place basically due to my tires being way to cold, I still managed 5th mind .1 behind my teammate.

I then had to get the car weighed and upon driving off the bridge my clutch pedal went to the floor! I drove it down the paddock as it was in 1st and we investigated and could not fix it. having had the box out now it was a leaky release bearing so I have bought a sachs one from bartech. I'm wondering if the standard one cant handle my stiff clutch! Anyway my first DNS :)

Next outing Snett in two weeks.

Good luck for the next time.

As you said the joys of racing. It happens unfortunately. But managing to make 5th when the car was all over the place on cold tyres? You should take some real pride in that. The mark of a great car and a great driver isn't winning on the good days but getting good results even on the bad days. (I can't remember who said that but its a good quote). Stay positive and good luck!

Yeah you're right I was also trying to learn Silverstone GP in less than 30 mins as I've not tested or raced there before! I was like where did that hairpin come from ha ha. My rears where at 38c after the session and minimum optimum for Direzzas is between 50 and 70c so it was a bit slidey.

Ive decided I'm not going to a circuit again that I've not tested or track dayed at. I'm actually worried about my stock driveshafts and Cv's now! I'm putting 320 tourque through them now with 320 WHP so I think I need to get some uprated ones made up as I see them as a weak link in the drivetrain.

Snetterton in 10 days if anyone wants to come and say hello. We are camping Saturday and racing on the Sunday with the Track Day Trophy boys again.. My competition now is

Seat Leon Supa Copa (my team mate)
Seat Leon Supa Copa Mk1 (driving instructor at Brands)
Focus RS
Boxter S
MR2 MRS
Cozzy

S class is growing..
