What have you done today?

I rebuilt some S4 rear calipers and would never do it again.

After all the hassle and effort, one started leaking after a year and the other had siezed up again. BiggRed will fully strip, refubish and paint them for about £100 the pair, or you can buy complete new TRW calipers for about 60quid each from Brakes International

That's £150 a pair for refurb :/

Just checked my receipt. I paid £129 for the calipers, plus 10 for the slider brackets to be blasted and painted, plus tenner postage. So yeh, £150.

At the time BrakesInt were out of stock of the £65 calipers.

Spent today fixing bits on the car that i never wanted to be doing again, having already fixed them last year

Removed the rear upright on the saloon to fix its wheel bearing, all came apart nicely, unsurprisingly as its only a year old!

Bearing feels like a stepper motor, completely fked!

Also replaced the front track rod end, which went super easy (also unsurprising as its only 14 months old) fingers crossed this one lasts longer!

Also investigated the rear bearing on the wifes car, same side as mine and it also feels awful, so that needs done ASAP too. Dug out my spare uprights and stripped down the drivers side one, so i can do both bearings at the same time on the press at work, without dismantling her car as well. Had to weld a bolt onto the ABS sensor fixing to get it out then had the inevitable fun of smashing lumps out of the ABS sensor to remove that, but it all came apart eventually. Also removed the lower bushing as the ones on the spare upright were knackered, so i'll fit a new one before putting it back on the car.

unfortunately cash is an issue currently after the last engine build, i need to enjoy driving her for as long as possible trouble free, if i get a year from them, it's worth it. ATM its been assembled with the crud cleaned out of the slot and the rear of the seal to allow the piston to move, so surely anything is better than a used seal lobbed back in,lol

just spent another few hours tinkering, and now have facelift headlights :) was far easier to do than some of the online guides reckon it is with taking bumpers off and such like

Been over at my old flat all day trying to get it ready for letting. forgot how much crap I'd accumulated.

Also dug this out, had to.... errrr..... test it

I know this wasnt meant for me.. but heres my reason for liking train sets

Im 38 this year but my old man had train sets set up in the loft for as far as I can remember which has made me always have an interest in them. but I don't own one.
my dad still has his but there not set up at the moment as hes downsized within the last year. hopefully we can get them set back up for him soon but at the moment hes not wanting to put them up the loft until the roof has been replaced

Rapidly approaching 40, no facial hair growths and gave up smoking 4½ years ago. So I guess I'm old enough to know better but still young enough to not actually care lol

Family has history with the railways so it's something that's always been of interest to me. As a teen I had a small but pretty detailed model railway but as is with life as soon as I got into my later teens I discovered girls, cars, girls, pubs, and girls. It all got boxed up and the board was removed when I moved out on my own and just never really thought about it much. Nephew loves trains so that and finding this set in the loft kind of got me thinking. Doubt I'll ever build another detailed layout but would be nice to put something together even if only for old times sake.

Nothing wrong with a good train set... you should see the amount I've got!

Got the S4 booked in today to have all of the suspension arms and track rod ends replaced and a 4 wheel alignment. MOT test next week as well. Expensive month here...

Really need to pull my finger out and do some work on the b5! Other projects including breaking a 200sx have taken priority so much so I haven't even washed the car since November :( I have how ever had two tyres replaced :D

As for models you should take a leaf out of my dad's book and do it properly

:D

The 200sx has gone? Shame! I loved the look of that in the pics.

Have you replaced it with anything else?

I bought a highly modified rusty 200sx off a mate which I broke for profit.

Mine is still safe in the garage, thanks for the comments though :)

Phew! :) everytime I see one I think I should save and buy one. They're great cars. My cousin had one years ago.

LOOL I brought this steering wheel when I had my old Gti and love the grip!

Just dropped the car off this morning for it's suspension work, first time I've trusted the car to a garage in 3 years!

For the body, I used 2 costs of Por-15 silver, the a coat of stonechip, then 2 costs of 2pack paint followed by a coat of 2pack clear.

Upright, caliper, roll bar, stone guard and subframe was done in Por-15.

Also replaced the 2 lower arms, caliper mount, bearing, hub, CV-joint, abs sensors and fitted new discs & pads. Upper arms were only 6 months old lemforder so they were left. Just finishing off the the other side then will start on the rear.

finished off the grinding on my wings so my facelift lights fit properly, changed the bulbs to some supposedly 100% brighter H7's ,and swapped the the one rear wheel over for the spare tyre as it had a split in the wall, looks like its a trip to the tyre shop in the week so ill swap the 2 front for new ones and shove the font on the rear as they still have around 7mm on

Just swapped out the headlight washer pump as my friend at work had one in his bits and bobs draw.

Was well over due changing and hopefully no more washer warning now lol

Also the FT isn't sounding to healthy i think the penny valves rattling away on overrun at 3k or higher sounds just like the old k03 i replaced about 3-4 years ago !

Had some time to deal with some niggles today. Finally got around to replacing a dodgy rear wheel bearing. I had a spare pair of uprights, so had them media blasted, both had new wheel bearings fitted and I painted them up black with Hammerite.

Took me far longer than it should have done due to the track rod joint not wanting to separate from the upright. Lots of Plus Gas, swearing and hammering. After about an hour of hammering (no exaggeration) and finally managing to separate them, my neighbour came over and asked if I wanted to borrow his ball joint separator. D'oh!!!

I also had a new ABS sensor to fit, as I was getting intermittent codes from the existing one. Just as well really, as there was not a chance in hell the other one was coming out! Also learned that PFL/FL rear uprights are different. The depth of the metal at the ABS sensor is about 1cm less on the Facelift item. This meant I had to trim the copper sleeve (bought a new Land Rover one) and also had to space out the ABS sensor I had bought.

And after reading a recent thread where Aragorn suggested a faulty bonnet switch could be the reason hazards don't flash when the alarm is armed, I took a look. It was FUBAR! So got rid of the switch and finally now have flashing lights when I lock the car for the first time in 18 months.

But the biggest small victory was yet to come. I had noticed the car feeling flat recently, and had got Lean running codes on both banks. I suspected the MAF (< 2 years old) was at fault, so wasn't looking forward to the expense. But, whilst fannying about with the bonnet switch, I could hear a hissing. Was nice and easy to find the culprit... one of the small DV lines had torn badly. Replaced it with some spare vac hose I had in the boot within a couple of mins, took it for a test drive and very happy to report it pulls like a train once more (and without the annoying wheel bearing hum!).

Yay!

I dodged the rain up here to try and keep my A3 clean! ****** May and 55 degrees and pouring. What happened to early summer?? This should be great detailing weather! :banghead::banghead:

Now this didn't happen today, but yesterday I brought one of my mates 98 spec dc2 integras out for a spin....I'm sorry to say I would give up my a4 for one in a heart beat!without a doubt the best car I have ever driven or even been a passenger in!

There are a lot of haters for vtec but the truth is that it is an awesome engine. Miss my type r. Even with only 200bhp it feels so much quicker and light.

Nope, its a crappy FWD japanese heap.

If you want to scratch the honda itch, buy an S2000.
