Found out how.
Correct way is to take out the radio and heater control then press the tab down.
Quick way is to use a radio removal key slide it in the small gap at the top of the ash tray in the middle and twist it that will press the top down and it will come out.
Might help somebody one day lol.

I have a single din stereo, and have already removed my ash tray - to allow room for my iphone cable. Removed trim that goes around stereo and heater control, remove heater control, then ash tray will come out.
