Hi guys

I'm new to the forum and Audi in general. I currently own a Ford Focus ST3 and I'm looking at swapping it for a new car in the next few weeks - I've got my heart set on a A3 Black Edition 170 Diesel.

I've had a quick look around the forum and read a few threads on these cars. I'm just after some advice as to what I should be looking out for when going to view one? I'm viewing 3/4 this weekend and they're all around the same age/spec/mileage - 2010 with 40-60k miles.

Thanks in advance :)

Buy an S3 :)

2 of my good friends both have an S3 and they are awesome cars, but I wanted to reduce costs ideally.

What mileage do you do in a year?
If you do less than 10,000 then I would go for petrol (no diesel premium)
Lower price at the pumps and from what people are saying that the government are going to increase taxes on diesels??

I do between 6-8k miles a year but for some reason I fancy a diesel :/

Since you're looking at 2010 or newer you don't need to worry about the dodgy oil pump in earlier cars.

Check for full service history, depending on mileage cam belt change should have been done. It may not have because Audi took a while deciding what the interval should be.

If you go for DSG check to see it has had its filter and oil changed every 40,000 miles. Check for rust on wheel arches and the general condition of the car.

I have had petrol cars all my driving life and last year I decided I would try a diesel.......Had it for 3 months and hated it..I now have my lovely A3 quattro 2.0 tfsi black edition with dsg and I,m very happy again:kissmyrings:

I'm going to test drive one tomorrow so I'll see how that goes!

Just out of curiosity, are the standard engines capable of handling a stage 1 remap? Or do they need supporting hardware to go with it? From my past experience with turbo petrol cars, they pretty much need a new clutch straight away as they usually start slipping.

Any extra power will put extra strain on the components. It won't make things fail that wouldn't have previously but it will make components that would have failed anyway fail sooner (depending on how you drive).

The 170 remaps to around 215BHP and lots more torque. From the graphs I've seen on this forum and other people's comments the power is lower in the rev range too...and it makes for a really exciting car.

2009 model isn't rubbish it just means you have to keep an eye on the oil pump now and again. Everything else is OK.
