I have already made my order but I am just wondering if I have made the right choice.. (184 manual)
I really do like the Idea of ACC specially on the Auto, I do A lot of Motorway driving. I like Manual in most cases but the only time I hate it is in stop start conditions.:notme:

S-Tronic pros -
Easier to drive
Works amazing with ACC
Paddle shift on steering wheel

Cons -
Less MPG
Not as fast as the 184 Manual (184 S-tronic Quattro out of my price range)
More Emissions
Costs a lot more to service

As the price difference is pretty close I find it hard to decided which would be better....

Ive got ACC on my 184 manual. Works perfectly! OK it might work better with an auto box but its still great with a manual.

You'll regret going for less power if you go the 150 auto route.

The 184, its a peach of an engine, and perfomance is great, better than a 150.

How does ACC work in start stop conditions? Also if you had it at 70 and traffic ended up going down to 30 would it slow its self down to that speed and you can just change gear while its doing so?

Not really used it enough to answer your first question to be honest. Id imagine it will just disengage and you then need to reenable it by pulling the stalk towards you.

Yes it will go down to 30 and you can change gear if you want/need to.

Yes, it will apply the brakes and you can at the same time change gear to be in appropriate gear

I guess you have had a number of test drives in both?
I had the 1.4 TFSI petrol with manual and ACC and loved it except when it disengaged in stop start traffic for obvious reasons. I went for the manual because many reviews spoke about the downsides of jerky S tronic. I have then read many many many positives on this forum and have taken a financial hit and gone for the same engine and S tronic and ACC plus Hold assist and Side assist (or whatever it is called). Have only had it a day and I am sure I have made the correct decision for me but I can totally agree that it is personal preference re driving styles, where and when and why you drive etc etc etc. Good luck and I hope you make the correct decision for YOU. Phil

Don't have ACC but have an S-Tromic. It actually is only 1-2 Co2 difference from the manual. The S-Tronic is a great box. My normal 14 mile round trip to work and I get 50-55 mpg. That's the 1.6tdi. However, I'd go with the S-Tronic over manual every day!

Agreed with the S-Tronic comments. It's not perfect but for a daily driver/commuter I prefer it over manual - it's just easier.

I have the 150 COD S-Tronic S-Line but it's a weekend runaround for me. However I do a lot of suburban/urban/inner city London driving due to the spread-out locations of where friends and family live so S-Tronic makes low speed stop/start driving much easier.

The 150 is decent but I'd like more power. The MPG figures aren't great for me either - 30-35 for inner city and 42/43 motorway seems the best so far - but it's not a show stopper for me. I could probably switch off AC, media, use Eco mode and accelerate slower to hit 50 MPG. It rarely drops into 2-Cylinder mode except in perfect conditions for it to do so.

My conclusion would be -

Daily commuting car: S Tronic 150.
Weekend run-around: Manual 184.
Weekend run-around in a city: S Tronic 150.

I'm getting around 50mpg out my 184 diesel at the moment and it's only done 3600 miles. It's getting better for sure.

Regarding it being a weekend run around, I understand your logic to a certain extent but if you only used it occasionally you are going to run into DPF problems I'm sure. You might as well get a Petrol.

What are DPF problems?

Just to clarify - I have the 1.4 TFSI COD which is 150 bhp.

Cool! I do remember reading that article - just forgot what DPF stood for.
