Fresh Paint and a wax...

So, I've had the Audi nearly a year. I've always had modified cars but this one is staying standard: It's got a FSH, only done 78k, 2 owners. We've got our first little one on the way so we're doing a lot in the house, but I wanted to get the car straight first...

I debadged the boot about 6 months ago and as I removed the badges residue, it was clear that there had been a bigger repair job done on the car at some point than I thought: and whoever done the repair (the numberplate on the front said Gladwins Body Repair Centre) sprayed around all the badges. Brilliant. The front bumper was already the wrong colour (more purple than Lava grey), and there was lacquer peel on the underside of the rear bumper. So, as the plan is to keep this for a good 4 years, I needed to get the car straight: I'm an obsessive cleaner, not just with the car but in my life as a whole! It was degreased (Good ol' Fairy Liquid!), polished the doors and roof (AG SRP) then had a coat of Poorboys Black Hole, then sealed with Dodo Juice Purple Haze Wax.

So, the engine was the first thing I cleaned (this was last year, but it's pretty much the same):

The interior is now spotless:

...and the bodywork! I cleansed and sealed then waxed the car yesterday, and the reflection is incredible. Looks like a new car again. We had the the front end done, so wings, bonnet and bumper, and the rear quarters, rear bumper and boot lid. We also had De-Dent have a go at the 8(!!) dents the car has collected (6 since we bought it courtesy of car park numpties), so the car is now dent free. Topped off with new plates from the local Audi dealership too.

I'm absolutely over the moon with how it looks now. I so desperately want to drop it 40mm+ but the missus has really put her foot down: and she's right to be fair-it took enough persuading to get the bodywork done!

Next job is the wheels. MOT in 2 weeks time, I know the tyres will need replacing, so it's getting 4 new, then the wheels need a good refurb. Aerocoat are a 20 minute drive from me, and they've quoted me £47 a wheel so thats next, but it'll be a few weeks before I can get away with that!

Happy chappy now! :)

Looking very nice its a credit to all your hard work:icon thumright: , mine used to look that nice and clean but only stayed that way for 10 mins as we have a gravel drive and all the joys that comes with gravel in the dry:(.

good luck with it and future upgrades.

Love a bit Lava grey in the sun, awesome colour.

Aerocoat are excellent, did my Golf Anniversary wheels a good few years ago, looked superb and lasted well. I'd use them again if they weren't so far away and if they were a bit better at answering emails.

Very tidy :) how did you get the engine bay that clean, steam clean or plain old jet wash or other? What products did you use?

Thanks guys.

Seriously, it is staying standard. I want to lower it, but I want it mint: and the only thing I'm going to be able to afford to do before baby comes along is refurb them wheels-and thats pushing it! Believe me, it isn't easy keeping it standard, I want to air it out/coilovers and stick on some genuine OEM Rotors. Not happening!

Had it's first MOT with me last week too, passed first time with 0 advisories, so really pleased with that. Still going to replace the tyres as there are 3 different brands on the car...

Engine bay was completed with some soapy water in a spray bottle, a couple of toothbrushes, old rags and microfibres, then a combination of Autoglym Bumper Care and Autoglym Vinyl and Rubber dressings. Only took an afternoon, but considering it started off like this I think thats pretty good...

It's difficult getting in nooks and crannies, but the narrow end of the toothbrush handle and a rag can be surprisingly nimble!

Cheers! Does look beautiful in the right light. Slightly over-cast is a good light for it I find, but a real sunny day highlights the metallic. Need to get out and take some proper photo's!
