Sleeping through most of the F1 race from Shanghai on the 12th April I later turned over to Motors TV to watch the WSE race from Silverstone - and was wide-awake and glued to my seat and experienced maybe the best race I've ever had the fortune to watch end-to-end.

Now I like Le Mans, and usually will either go or make way for televised coverage; but this year I've watched both of the televised WSE 6-hour races; first from Silverstone and again this weekend from Spa Francorchamps: in both races the circuit lap and overall distance records were broken: and AUDI won BOTH!

A Formula 1 fan for many a year but F1 has nothing, and I mean nothing, on WEC: its compares with prima donna ballerinas facing manic all-in-wrestlers for 6-hours.

It's the "so you go into the barriers and stuff the nose, oh and you've lost a wheel, well get it back here to the pits and we'll get you back out" attitude is what does it for me.

The lead LMP1 cars have 50+ laps on slower Porsche 911 RS3 cars at the end of 6-hours; that's right, they've to pass the 'slower' cars 50+ times in 6-hours.

And the differing technology packages of the LMP1 cars; Audi, Porsche, and Toyota, need some understanding: LMP1 cars are producing around 1000bhp and a power-to-weight ratio of 1.11bhp/kg.

In comparison, F1 cars are producing around 780bhp with a marginally higher power-to-weight ratio of 1.13bhp/kg.

At Spa, yesterday, the winning Audi covered the greatest distance of any race car over a 6-hour distance.

For those of you who are avid F1 fans and me and mine are/were I respectfully suggest you take a look ate this current batch of LMP 1 Audi, Porsche, and Toyota cars and how these manic drivers deal with slower Ferrari 458 and Porsche 911 RSR cars on the same track.

For sure there's one or two F1 drivers wouldn't like the duckin' and a divin' around Silverstone and/or Spa with these guys...

You F1 fans/followers have just gotta take a look at these guys.

Roll on Le-Mans...

I recorded the race and watched it last night. I couldn't believe the speed of the Porsches in relation to all the other cars in the race including the Audi's. The acceleration from the top of Eau rouge up the Kemmel straight was quite amazing.
Have a look from 08:30 on this highlights video.

Soooo happy others are into this...

I'll never forget the Silverstone race as THREE different manufacturer/technical solution LMP1 cars were 14seconds apart after 6-hours: Audi, Porsche and Toyota.

At Spa it was 13-seconds between the winning Audi and a Porsche but again, as with Silverstone, with 5-minutes to go, no sensible person would put money on a winner.

For the uninitiated: ALL LMP1 cars are 4-wheel drive: the Audi is a 3.7 V6 Tdi with a flywheel accumulator, the Porsche a V4 TC petrol with Lithium iron battery, and the Toyota a 3.4 litre V8 Nat Asp petrol with super capacitor.

These things are MEGA! Very near as quick as an F1 car on the same GP circuits; but these LMP1 cars have racing (so these boys ain't slow either) Aston Martins, 911RSRs, F458s, and Corvette C7s to deal with - lapped 50-times by the end of a 6-hour race(?).

And if they break it out on the circuit they do everything, and I mean everything humanly possible to get the beats back...

Take a look; I respectfully suggest that any of you F1 follower/fans who have no knowledge of 6-hour WEC; please, just take a look...

Oh, and these guys change drivers, change tyres, and re-fuel - what a laugh...

GO AUDI...

Sooo! It's Porsche, Porsche, Porsche; Audi, Audi, Audi; and Toyota, Toyota: and there's only 6.88 seconds between 'em over an 8.451 mile circuit: can't wait...

Ok, so morning warm up over and it's now Audi, Audi Audi... and they're faster in warm up than they were in qualifying... what's all that about?

The pictures joy of going down the Mulsanne in the early morning at 200mph albeit in a Porsche 919 takes me back some when we did that in a Lotus Elan albeit a tad slower and with a boot full of luggage heading for Provence...
